XJ headliner out, what else?

So I finally got tired of my headliner sagging and getting worse, and I pulled it out yesterday afternoon. Are there any other "while I'm here" kind of things I should do with the headliner off? There's not really anything up there, but I figured it would be worth asking anyway. Thanks!

Here's a pic, just for the fun of it.

what all needs to come off to do the headliner? so that i know what tools to prepare for

you plan on putting any holes in your roof for antenna or lights?

It took me about two hours to get to that point in the image without knowing anything about removing the headliner. I think I broke maybe three fasteners along the way. I don't really know how I would have stopped that unless there's some specialized tool that I don't have/know about. Plus, they broke at the plastic where it clips into the metal fasteners. Not really sure what to do about that one. I guess I'll put it all back together and see what happens.

To get to this point I removed: sun visors (with electrical connection), front ceiling light, 4 grab handles, rear ceiling light, rear seatbelt mounts, rear speakers, and then the immediate plastic and metal (!!!) trim surrounding the roofline. I left the D-pillar trim in place and just finagled the headliner out from there. I only pulled back the A-pillar trim enough to do the same at the front.

No plans for holes in the roof. When it's time for rearward facing lights I think I'm going to tie it all in to the rear bumper and the tire carrier. There's already some wiring that's run back there for the CB antenna, so I might as well just follow along with that.

Anyone have any preferred material to re-cover it with? Or is standard, foam backed material sufficient?

Glad to see some others being done. Mine has need it for a while. Looking forward to see the progress. My question is also what to cover with and whether to cover it with a foam backing or not. Maybe some sound deadening material? Thoughts?

While it is out I would spray the ceiling with sound proofing or even bedliner makes a huge difference in noise level and sound quality (if that sort of thing is important to you)

Well, Thought I would share my headliner update. Decided to go with the MILITARY DIGITAL MARPAT MARINE CORP DESERT CAMOUFLAGE. It turned out alright. My headliner started peeling off with about a 6" circle. After about two weeks of driving it was hitting me in the head and had to go. The hard part about the re-cover was the fabric I used is not stretchable and was very hard to conform around the rear speakers. Hope this helps someone.
