Hey, I also have a 2500HD, and I have a blackbear tune, I really like it because once tuned you can slowly adjust things as needed by just sending your PCM in to be adjusted. I did the on site tune so it was completely custom and live. It was a huge difference afterward and the truck got +2 mpg and runs much smoother and shifts better. Weird issue with the oil, never had that myself.
I always found the 6.0L to be really rock steady and very reliable. I also previously had a 1500 with the 5.3 (2001) and it wasn't nearly as nice as the 6.0L. That being said gas milage sucks.
Anyway just thought I would chime in about the tuning.
