XJ, WJ, WK, JK which one do I build, I really like them all

So like the title says I'm really confused, I like them all. I like you can take the top of the JK, the v8 of the wj/wk, and the well not really what I like about the xj, lol. Now here's the kicker I currently have an 08 JK 4dr X, but it's a 6spd and the wife can't/won't drive/learn to drive it. So here's my thinking. If I do trade it on something I want to trade it for something that will be about the same pay off as what I currently have now. So here's a few thoughts, and your input would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Primary use- daily driver, forest roads, mild trailers, family transport, reliable, dependable, trail riding/camping, and reliable

All get pretty close MPG, 4 doors, cargo room

XJ, WJ, WK- expensive to run 35s, would 32s/33s be sufficient?
XJ- cheapest
WJ, WK- v8, kinda pricey
JK- already have it, doors/top comes off, 45K miles, downside wife can't drive it, easy to fit 35s

If I was to get something new what should I look for in that model, like milage, I see lots of XJs and WJ/WKs but most at 120K and up, to me that seems like alot of miles, but I'm new to these models

I've looked through most of the jeep pictures thread all 200+ pages, and see many many different directions I'd like to go, just to many decisions.

Thanks in advance, your thoughts are appreciated.

Of the choices mentioned I would go for the WJ with the 4.7. I am kinda biased though... I love Grand Cherokee's.

define what type of trail and difficulty level you intend to use the vehicle for.

JK - XJ - WJ - WK: that's the order of off-road capability per dollar spent on aftermarket. i.e the JK has the most ability stock, the WK requires the most money to get it to perform at the level a JK can stock even. i love my WJ, but if you are looking to do any rock crawling or serious difficult trails, then it's a money pit.

the XJ seems like odd-man-out in your list, it's cheaper but much less luxurious.

the WK would make an excellent comfy expo rig for mild trails, but would be even less capable to modify for extreme trails than the WJ.

i'd say stick with a JK if you have the money, i.e. trade it in on one that's an auto - you'll loose money on that deal, but end up with a capable vehicle that probably meets your needs.

The JK is still very capable with 32/33s. Did a trail last summer with my 07 JKU X. It only had a 2.5" BB and 33s, and I had no issues keeping up with the Rubi's (most of which had 35s). I got stuck a couple of times, but I was never "that guy" who was always stuck or slowing people down.

I know if Jeep hadn't come out with the 4 dr JK, I'd be getting a WJ - love the power in the v8, and the overall appearance. The price of mods would have killed me, but would have done it regardless.

This kinda seems like a "no brainer" to me.?. I'd keep and build the JK you already have. The aftermarket is flooded with parts and upgrades for these. It fits all your family easily plus some gear. If the only concern is the lack of an auto tranny then swap one in. Or if you plan this to be a long term keeper, then look into swapping in a hemi or GM with an auto. Then you will prob even get better gas milage. If you don't want to void the warranty then just do small mods for now until its paid off. When you feel comfortable you have gotten your $$s worth from the (IMHO worthless) warranty, then start the swap.

^^^ This

Keep the JK, swap in an LS/4L60 combo, be happy.

And I'm not a fan of JKs...

Otherwise, of the list I'd move towards the XJ and WJ.

The inteiror of the WK makes my skin crawl. The rest are tolerable.

the JK is really the best vehicle per dollar spent on your list. between capability offroad, ease of aftermarket support and parts, and long term durability i dont think there is a better vehicle on your list. the XJ you can forget about, it just wont measure up in creature comforts that the other 3 provide. I've always loved WJ grands but the new JK with the new motor has changed that a bit for me b/c of its ease of modifications and aftermarket support. now that it has proper motor its a great vehicle to drive everyday plus take out weekend wheeling/camping/overlanding. plus you still get the no top/no doors option that makes jeeps awesome to begin with.

IMO i would trade your current JK in for a new '12 with the Auto and new Pentastar engine. the new 5 speed/3.6 combo is just great and will get decent mileage to boot. plus once its been around for a few years there will be some aftermarket support for it in regards to performance (not that 280/260 is a slug like the previous 3.8).

I just wanted to thank everyone for there thoughts, I have decieded to stick with the JK, and when she blows up I'll add a new motor and auto trans, but my guess is that isn't going to be for a while
