I was wondering if there are people who also use this allbander. I am fery pleased with it´s performance but I am having problems with the SWR when I´m transmitting on UHF. When I transmit on VHF my SWR is good but when I transmit on UHF the SWR it bad. I use a Diamond dual band antenne. Is it possible that this old antenne is demaged in some way or the cable is damaged.

thanks

How bad is it?

Cable is maybe, but I'd guess not because it would probably not be isolated to UHF only (it's conceivable, just not likely). The antenna would be my first thought. However, it might not be damaged, but just needs to be tuned. Depends on the design of the antenna, some let you tune the VHF and UHF sections separately. Some don't and if yours doesn't, then I would suggest trying a borrowed antenna and see if the SWR is better. If you eliminate the cable and antenna, then it's possible that your antenna mount location is affecting your SWR, a poor ground or even the radio itself is suspect.

thanks dave

I´ll try a different antenne. I hope it´s not the radio itself.
I´ll let you know. Thanks for the advise

How do you like the 857? It seems like the perfect mobile all-bander. How much time do you spend on HF while on the road? I'm skeptical that I'll spend much time making remote contacts via HF, but it might be fun to have it along on camping trips.

I really like the radio but I just bought it after using a dual bander before that.
My radio is modified to transmit on the CB band aswell.
I don´t think I´m gonna use the HF much on the road but when I´m camping I´m planning to setup a dipool wire antenna to radio back home or in case of emergency. It´s also nicee to beable to recieve the duth world radio service on AM.
This radio is all I need in 1 radio.
