Yakima help needed

I am trying to figure out which Yak towers can be flat mounted like on a trailer top with either the landing pads or the yak track mounts.
Near as I can find only the control towers will work for this kind of application which is too bad because they are the ones I cant find on CL.
I can find Q towers and 1A's all day long.
So the basic question is can Q's or 1A's be mounted flat, perhaps with a variant of the landing pad or somekind of bolt on piece that they would mount to?

For flat mount or in the tracks you've got to use control towers.

I think you might be able to mount gutter mounts on a flat surface using a bracket from Yakima or Thule.

Edit: Thule 542 looks like it can be bolted to a flat surface and then used with their gutter mount. I would assume it would work with Yakima gutter mounts too since a gutter is a gutter...right?

Either way. I currently have a bare flat surface to work with.
I think I found my answer.
I want to run 3 bars but looks like the sets are sold in groupings that make 4 bars just as easy.

Top Bolt Loader brackets to use the 1A towers

4 pair for $30 each = 120 bucks
$260 for (8) 1A towers. Seem to only be sold in sets of 4.
Total $380 :yikes: (OUCH!)

or

Or Control Towers with #1 landing pads to use the Yak tracks.
Which starts to get really pricey when you are planning on 3 cross bars.
Yak trak- $125
Control towers 8 - $125
Landing pads (pairs) 4 @ $30 =120
Total $370 :Wow1: (Oooh! a bargain by $10)

God I need to learn how to fabricate metal.
