Yellowstone & Grand Teton NP's - Memorial Weekend 2009

Well, Michelle and I decided to get into the trees and go see some wildlife this weekend. We made the < 2 hr trip to West Yellowstone, camped there, and made the trip into the park each day.

Traffic was not as bad as we have seen in the summer months, but Saturday was a little congested.

We saw more animals on this trip than we have seen on others. We were able to set eyes on:
Elk
Deer
Bighorn Sheep
Grizzly
Black Bear
Marmot
Tatonka mmmmm...buffalo meat

Of course we did the usual visit to Old Faithful, but this trip we took more of the side roads. Firehole Canyon has to be my new favorite!

Great pics. I'm actually planning a trip up there the first week of October. Do you have any tips for a newbie to that area? What would you recommend and anything to avoid?

See as much of the park as you can. Firehole Canyon Drive is really cool too. Also make sure you see Grand Teton National Park.

Things to avoid:

• Wearing "doe in heat" spray
• Wearing "cow in heat" spray
• Dressing up like a female buffalo, elk, moose, or deer
• If you do any of the above, bring plenty of preparation H and a sitz bath (it may still be the rut)

HAHA Nice...The plan is 2 nights in Yellowstone and 2 nights in the Tetons. I guess I'll need to leave the cow costume at home now...

You only live 2 hours away from Yellowstone and Grand Teton area....I am SOOOO jealous. Thanks for the pics, cant wait to go back there.

I was there the same time. First time out west and it was great.

The photographers were staking out a badger hole. They were so intense and taking themselves so seriously it was almost comical. I used to be a photojournalist so it was comical to me anyway.

My wife and I will be there next week for an extended stay of a week. 4 days in Yellowstone and 3 days in Grand Tetons. I can't wait, the pictures are amazing and to think there is still snow on the ground is crazy. Awesome. Any more suggestions let me know.

I have never been a photojournalist and that was funny to me. I would not have wanted to be there when a ticked off Badger came out of the hole though.
