Yet another new guy with a old van.

Hi everyone. I'm Joel. I love reading your post and dreaming of the day I can upgrade... to what that always changes. I have the commuter saturn 30+ with the a/c off, even can get in the 38 mpg if I hypermile. I actually did that for three tanks. Just can't stand going that slow. We have a 87 pathfinder van extended club wagon with a huge fiberglass roof, that my wife, kids and dogs just love. Man I could but my saturn in it. And what I feel is one sweet ace jeep wagoneer that frankly I feel we have just outgrown now that we have the pathfinder. I have had a lot of 4x4's starting with 87 ranger way back when it was 2 years old, moved to my favorite vehicle of all times since I was like 6 the early broncos with my 73 after that around 93. My bronco was totaled in Portland back in 98.... previously While whomping the bronco up in Idaho in 97 I was totally out climbed by a stock old ugly wagoneer (maybe 76 model) that a buddy owned and I noticed how much room he had for the dog, the kids and S.O. that bronco seemed way to small after that. (I was about going over backward with my 3" lift and 32" he was totally stock scrapping metal all the way up stuff) Bought a 3/4 ton suburban 4x4 on 32" after that for a couple years loved it but sold it to keep my little commuter car going at the time, and always wanted to replace it, the moment I sold it. A couple years later in 2002 I bought the 69 wagoneer that I put dana 44's under, disc brakes up front, vintage air, and a lot of other good stuff but after having the suburban and camping in that the wagoneer was just to tight and at 10 mpg... Sold the wife on a used 4x4 pathfinder in October 2006, I am not into driving over boulders as high as my hood anymore, never really did any rock climbing like they do now, just muddy, California, Oregon, Washington and of course my personal favorite Northern Idaho mud and snow while elk hunting or weekend get aways out of the central valley CA, I live outside fresnow. When I gotta plow snow with my hood I stop now a day's or when the black ice is so thick you would be better off on ice skates ya Wal Mart parking lots are nice and flat. Anyways I like the idea of going with the old recycled vehicle, putting the best parts you can into them and going from their. Seems like you gotta have two anyway to get the things to the shop even for warranty work. Keep the great post coming if i hear of any good stuff I will be sure to pass it on. God bless. Sorry this will be the longes post I make. But when your looking at my handle you can get to know me a little. Joel

Welcome to the forum,:jumping:
I havent been here long myself, but we need more guys with vans.......
Like yourself my off road travel has changed and evolved over the years.
The oldest truck we enjoyed was a 1958 Dodge town wagon. Lockers, pto winch, 4 fuel tanks, 44 inch mudders. But needs change and it had to go.
The perfect rig doesnt exist but its fun trying to get there.

Regards,

Jim
