YJ love

Spent the day putting on a 2.5" lift on a friend's 1987 YJ. Yes it took all day. Too many original parts, rusted in place. ... too little experience on my part with leaf springs... BUT..

I have a new found respect for the YJ. Ihave had cherokees, TJ's and now an LJ, but never a YJ. Amazingly simple vehicle. Limited tools required 3/4", 13/16" 7/8"... that may actiually be it... oh, except for the T-55 on the track bar (seriously, does this jeep NEED a track bar?) So very simple.

A YJ build may be in my future. A good old, bash around the farm, run after the apocoplypse kind of build... not fanciness required.

Track bars are not required, you can thank Ralph Nader for them being there to begin with. They went in the trash bin on mine years ago.

I agree, CJs didn't have them and they had narrow flimsy springs. YJs have wide flimsy springs and still handle fine without them, you don't even notice them gone.

The swaybar on the other hand should stay.

Figured as much...

Thank goodness "they" are all out there to protect us. I am definitely happy there is a sticker telling me the top on my LJ is not designed to save me in a crash and that a jeep drives differently thatn other vehicles! Oh My!

Got to a agree! I don't like mine for travel, but for topdown back roads and screwing around in the woods, they are tough to beat.

I tried getting the ones in my JK off. I am thankful for the constant reminder on a sicker, of all places, that a big piece of sailcloth won't do anything to protect people inside!

Yeah, they are very simple rigs. Sometimes I love the fact it is so basic. Zip up windows open and close faster than a crank or a power switch will ever be! :)
