Yosemite June 12th with three little ones

Yosemite National Park

In June, we visited Yosemite with our three little ones. Taking a family of three children ages 3 months to 3 years can be challenging. I was hoping that the flows would still be high giving good run-off for the waterfalls. If you get the chance, I would recommend a mid-week visit as traffic is more manageable. The traffic was pretty bad, but we were not in any hurry or on a strict agenda. We enjoyed the day out and the weather was perfect. Sunny and mid-70s. Here are a few pics of our adventure...

We stopped for lunch as we hit the valley floor at Cathedral Beach. We cooked up some food and the kids played on the shore by the river. The picnic area has an incredible view of El Capitan. Once again, I love having the ARB freezer/fridge to keep food cold without being soggy. No more ice!

El Capitan, a mecca for climbers.

After lunch, we headed to Yosemite Village and a hike to the Lower Yosemite Falls.

Here is a pic near the parking lot looking across a meadow. The falls were running at high flow and the weather was amazing. Below are Cara and Ella.

Next, it was my turn with the kids. Liam is in a stroller outside the picture.

We arrived at the base of Lower Yosemite Falls. There is a great deal of spray from the falls and some that hiked closer on the rocks were soaked through.

A view of Halfdome across the valley. Again, the weather was spectacular.

Overall, it was a wonderful day. The kids behaved great and travelled well. I love California....

That looks fantastic! Can't wait to see those looks on my kids faces (once they get here :) of course). Great inspiration.

Excellent pics, thanks. So inspiring in fact that I'm taking the family there later this week. Want to see the falls when the flow is heavy.

Great time to go

EMRider- yes, now is the time to go. It is so much more impressive with the heavy flows and nice weather. If you can, try to go mid-week. The traffic was pretty bad when we went on Saturday, but we didn't have much choice due to work.

Depending on how old and adventurous your kids are, the hike to the upper falls is amazing. It will take all day though and is 7.2 miles roundtrip and pretty much straight up. There are so many great hikes in the valley. We were limited to stroller accessible trails this trip and the lower falls are still quite impressive and easily hiked to.

Have fun!
