Welcome to Nevadafornia
Rule! :victory:
I'm very impressed with the new JK, and I'm very grateful to the guy who pulled me out. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a member here.
The story:
On our way to exploring the Monitor and Toquima ranges east of Austin we drove Highway 50 east from Fallon. Up on the switch backs above Austin to the summit at 7500 feet, my stomach started really hurting and I needed to find a spot to pull off as soon as possible. We got to the summit and I saw several gravel piles maybe 50 yrds from the highway and immediately pulled off, hit the brakes, grabbed a handful of TP and raced behind the pile. Well after taking care of business I hopped back in the truck and managed to move maybe 5 feet in reverse before sinking the truck to the skids/axle in snow.
Whoops...
So close to the highway it was absurd!
Well we tried and tried and tried to dig it out. I needed better shovels, and more straps apparently.
We moved gravel and rocks behind the tires and I jacked the thing up and stuck rocks under the tires. No go.
Finally a Chevy 1500 from Arkansas with 35" KM2s pulled off, he was a nice guy and tried to help but he ended up slightly stuck himself and the 35s were just not getting enough traction to pull me out. I had to cut the end off my snatch strap so he could free himself. I thanked him for the effort and he headed on his way.
Back to the shovels for a while until an older gentleman driving a very nice 09 F350 Powerstroke pulled off to help. Well he was just too heavy and he ended up sinking in himself but not to the point where I was stuck. We spent about an hour digging him out and shoving sage brush and gravel under his tires until he eased right up out of it. Well he wished me luck and I thanked him for his help and he suggested I find someone with a winch to pull me from pavement as I was only about 30 yards off.
Coincidentally, as he says this, I see a 4 door JK Rubicon with an ARB bumper with a winch, and pulling a bright yellow off road tent trailer. I flagged him down and he said yeah no problem I'll get you free. I told him it was deep and to be careful or he could end up stuck, to which he replied I won't get stuck :coffeedrink: Then I noticed the sticker on his rear window, Fallon SAR. :wings: I hooked a shackle and strap to his bumper and he gave me a slight tug and out I popped, didn't even need his winch. I must say I was extremely impressed with him and his Jeep. He didn't even charge me. If you're reading this, THANK YOU!
You can see where I sank after slamming to a halt and where the heavy F350 made a mess of things.
Jeep saved the day! Thought you guys would like a story about a Jeep saving a Toyota
In case you wondered my Taco is 4wd with a rear locker.
