Zümntinker: intro and rambling log

Well I finally joined the Jeep club. Now that I own one I can't believe it took me so long. I knew I'd like it but I didn't guess I'd love it this much. I didn't guess my wife and kids would love it so much. It's kind of surprised all of us. My plan with this thread is to chronicle some mild upgrades and ramblings primarily in the South.

I've owned it a couple of weeks and have wasted no time. I've had it on the Cohutta dirt roads twice and my son and I have already slept in it one weekend.

Some bonuses I didn't expect:
1. The seats are great IMO. I have heated cloth. Like a lot of middle aged guys my lower back sometimes gives me problems. I've spent a lot of time in the saddle already and I can't believe how comfortable the seats have been. (Granted my expectations were low going in but still.)
2. Freedom panels: man I love these things. I've done interstate driving with them off and still enjoyed it. For me it is a real open feeling; a comparable experience to full on convertibles if you know what I mean. My original plan was a J30 top from Ursa Minor, now I don't think I want to give up the panel off driving.
3. The stereo: with panels off and the stereo up does it get much better? I bought this to be an occasional explorer in the mountains, now I want to drive it everyday. The stereo quality exceeded my expectations.

My wife and kids have all had a turn driving it on the F.S. roads in north GA. Everyone is hooked and can't wait to go again. My son and I do a lot of camping so we plan to camp and explore with it.

Upgrade plans? Well, as mentioned on the Ursa top, I have some rethinking to do. I don't want to put a camper top on and off a lot. That seems a real hassle. And while my son and I fit in the back with the seats down and with a comfy bed roll; I have a 12v refrigerator to accommodate. A platform built over it doesn't seem to leave a lot of room for sleeping.

I do plan a rack of some kind as I want to install lights all the way around for night time visibility and set up. I also have an awning from a previous set up. I like the awning for not only campsite shade but we also go to races at Road Atlanta, I want plenty of shade with me if I want it.

So I'm currently thinking through racks and camping set ups. Other than that, I'm just enjoying the heck out of it.

Here's the first trip through the Cohutta:

did we decide which model it is?

and how does it fit two sleepers?

It's a "Sport" (I think), honestly I'm not sure, I found the price and mileage I wanted at Carmax because I didn't want to buy brand new. And, it had the heated seats and Bluetooth connectivity I wanted.

With the back seat folded flat it slept my 14 yr old son and I very nicely.
