Zion...A quick weekend away

Spring was in the air...Well, kind of...It was snowing as I packed the cruiser to head south for the weekend. Where to go? Zion...We love going down there in late winter! Few crowds, pleasant temperatures and just enough of a tease to let you know that Spring is coming.

This time was no different! We packed the gear and we were off. We enjoyed the lovely I-15 corridor drive. Well, not really...It sucks but one can make good time! Nothing like stopping at the petting zoo at Scipio. A must stop if you have a 4 year old!

We made decent time and the temps increased as descended 1600 feet to Zion.

Our first day involved a nice bike ride out to a ghost town south of Springdale. A ride I would recommend when it is not tourist season because you have a few miles of road riding on the highway. We found it pretty quiet!

Lilly liked going to school. Even though it wasn't in session; the building was well-preserved.

Not everyone made it out alive though!

The following day we played in the "park". Crazy to think that in the summer; thousands of people are running around this place. Today, not even a ranger to welcome us. The gate opened but no one there manning the station.

Playtime...Enjoy the sun and throw a rock in the water. Life is good!

The trip ended with me trying to find a treasure. A sign of the past...A granary in Zion Canyon? Really? Yeap, found it! What a view the ancient ones had looking up and down the canyon!

I was in Vegas during last week of Feb for a show. I snuck out for a day (2.25.13) and drove to Zion NP for it's been on my wish list for a long time. Wow, what a wonderful place to hike, I'll need at least a week to scratch the surface sufficiently. I've never really been hiking out west so a lot of my amazement is simple the splendor of the West. I drove up to the eastern entrance and back up to the end, then walked to the Temple of Sinawava. Went back to the Grotto and hike the West Rim Trail to Angels Landing but ice and snow block that path. I'll be back.

Sorry, I didn't mean to high jack your thread but I was excited about Zion. I'll definitely be back in the summer with the wife.
