ZJ got a Power Steering Cooler Today

So I was reading up on different posting and web pages about adding a power steering cooler to the ZJ.

Well instead of buying an aftermarket one, I decided I would use a stock ZJ trans cooler. So after a trip the the JY, I found a good looking one and pulled it.

Stopped at Autozone on the way home for some hose and radiator flush.

I had some other things to tinker with on the ZJ, so while getting my tinker on, I push the flush in the cooler and let it sit. After a couple hours, I dumped out the cooler and filled it with power steering fluid and emptied it. (I did this a few times).

Once all that was done, I tore into the front end.

Remove your air box so you can get to the return line coming off the steering box itself.

Put in the cooler and run your hoses.

Make sure everything is tight, bleed your steering, put it all back together, check for leaks and enjoy.

Remember the return line goes in the bottom of the cooler. You want it working on pressure and not gravity.

So for around 30 bucks, I have myself a power steering cooler.

I did this same mod with an I6 ZJ trans cooler (sits on the driver's side where the PS is) a few years ago. The steering definitely doesn't burn up the fluid like it used to when doing lots of slow work in hot weather. And it blends right in with the bigger trans cooler mounted next to it.
