Looking for ideas for my 2001 4x4 7.3 F350 for a front bumper. Dont want anything HUGE or crazy, just some steel, strength, more lighting, good looks.

Have any pics of your aftermarket front bumper, post up.

Thanks!

thats what i wanted so i made mine cause everything i found was bigger but not as strong. It has a sub frame out of 2x2 1/4' wall tubing. Also left two spots for offroad lights on either side of the winch, plus i wanted to keep as much of my approach angle as i could and keep my stock recovery hooks.

Hope you have better luck then I have with my Dodge. I guess the current trend is to make everything look like it's for Zombie killing. For me the ARB is not bad but I am not a big fan of their Sahara bar look. I like the classic ARB look. The only other couple I found, that looked good and were not huge/crazy looking, were big $$$$.

Interested to see what you come up with.

An advantage with the ARB stuff is that it has a perfect fit on everything ive seen them on and are built solid, if i had had the money i would have gotten an ARB

I picked up this Iron Mule bumper a few years ago. Haven't any idea what I'm going to use the crane for yet, but couldn't pass the deal up.

Just installed a Tough Country Deluxe front bumper on my 2011 Ram 1500. No pics yet - I live in Canada and right now, when I leave work, it's already dark out. I'll try and get some this weekend though. There's not a lot of full 4" pipe bumpers with wrap-around grill guards available for brand-new half tons, but plenty out there for 3/4 or 1-tons. I really like the Tough Country (and I looked at a few others as well) because it was totally customizeable. I dealt with their dealer network (Lignite Tire in Beuhlah, ND) to custom build to my specs - flush 2" receiver tube, 2 X 1" plate shackle mounts, and Line-X'd. I got it for about $1600 all in, although I drove 15 hours round-trip through a blizzard to pick it up myself, as they wanted $550 to ship it across the border to Canada.

Had it installed at a local 4X4 shop I trust (Jeep Doctor) - it took 3 of us (2 mechanics, and myself as helper) about 1.5 hours to tear out the old bumper and re-install the new one. Fits like a glove. No screwing around boring out misaligned bolt holes, or hammering the frame mounts to make stuff fit....it really was just a "lift it into place, finger tighten the bolts, adjust the fit, and tighten 'er up". Totally painless install, and I love the look. I'd have no problem buying something from Tough Country again. My only complaint is they shorted me 2 nuts and bolts. However, Jeep Doctor found that bumper bolts from a Jeep TJ fit.

To cope with the extra weight on the front end (about 185 lbs, compared to about 60 lbs for the stock bumper assembly) I also had them install a Readylift 2.5" front levelling kit. On the initial install, the Readylift levelling kit gave me 3 1/4" of lift (from our tape mark on the fender, we went from 36" to 39 1/4") - when we installed the Tough Country bumper it settled back in to 38.5". So in all, I got 3/4" of front droop. This is the reason I went with the flush reciever tube - I wanted to have the ability to remove the other 100+ pounds of the winch and cradle when I didn't need it, and to use it in the back if necessary.

Mine is almost identical to this, but without the tow hook cutouts, and the fog light cutouts.

Oil eater.
www.backwoodsbumpers.com. has a Standard bumper that's not too Mad Max With a Fat Lip appearance. After the New Year, they're going to work on a non-winch style which should mirror the stock bumper's profile.

The ARB's on 3rd gens leaves the power steering cooler, hose, intercooler and radiator exposed. For whatever reason they don't provide an optional skid plate for it as they do with the Fords.

Hanging 250+ lbs way off the front of a diesel truck doesn't seem the way to go for me.

ARB Sahara on the 2000 7.3 Excursion, Ranch Hand on the 2000 7.3 F350. Both fit well and look like they can take a beating, but the ARB has some huge polyurethane bumpers that have been nice for pushing stuff around the driveway, has an integral winch mount (IIRC you can buy a ranch hand with a winch mount), and looks a lot better to me. I like the lower profile. It also fits better, looks like it moves the air better, and they claim it is compliant with all ABS systems. Who knows, but it works for me.

Aluminess makes some nice bumpers.TRUCK BUMPERS

Aluminess bumpers are all aluminum construction, powder coated with a locking storage compartment. The front bumpers are set up to accommodate a winch. In addition, there are tow hooks, a brush guard and built-in light mounts. The rear bumpers have a locking storage compartment and optional swing arms that can accommodate a spare tire and gas or water cans.

ARB makes bumpers for Chevy trucks but it seemed to be to big for a Tahoe, it just didnt balance the truck visually to me. So, I modified a Land Cruiser bumper to fit, since it had smaller dimensions. Was a fun project and I am happy with how it turned out.
