Hi All,

I just bought a Jeep Wrangler and started to prepare it for a trip to Mongolia, Rusia and Kazahstan. One of the points is navigation. After my motorcycle trip to Senegal and Gambia, I have learned that topo maps would be the best solution, especially in those regions. I have an iPad with GPS module. After spending some time on reading about applications, decided to go with PathAway, my question is, where can I find maps for those regions, that I am planning to visit and how to get them running. Maybe you have other suggestions on ways how should I solve this issue.

Hi, I know only situation in Mongolia. I lived there one year 2006/2007 and also I was there this summer as a tour guide. I put some maps of Mongolia to my website: http://www.blo-gros.info/index.php?id=mongolia-maps

But it is very difficult to drive without mongolian driver in Mongolia. There is not so much normal roads and you will have to drive in the steppe. Even mongolian drivers have to ask everytime nomads in yurts. I can speak mongolian but I cant drive in Mongolia alone..

The basic maps is sometimes not good and with a lot of mistakes. It is necessary to have GPS module, but if I konw, there is not GPS maps for Mongolia. So you can use GPS coordinates for example from lonely planet guidebook.

Bevare from dogs close to yurt!

I think it is very difficult to drive alone in Mongolia, but it must be wonderfull :)

Have a nice trip!
