TheBrassNuckles rubicon sloooooooooooow build

I got a 2013 JKUR the other day..

I like it, The wife hasn't been in it yet, she gets back from cali on the 24th, so we will see how she feels about it. I am going to use this thread to document how I modify the Jeep for family offroad travel and camping. Its going to be my DD so Im not going to go nuts with it, but i'm gonna try to make it as capable as possible without breaking the bank. (the wife says bigger tires are a "looooooong" way off... drat.. but I took it out a few days ago in the snow up sevenmile and went about 2/3 of the way up it before the snow covered the trail and I turned back so as not to go tearing through the hills off trail on accident. I am going to be pulling the winch off my 4Runner to put on here so I need a winch bumper, so far my favorite is the rough country Hybrid Stubby bumper @ $229 it is a good price point and it looks pretty good in my opinion, not too many bells and whistles, weighs only 40lbs and can mount a winch. Another thing I will be adding is the ARB air compressor I just bought, for an OBA setup, I have always wanted one, and I have the compressor, I just need the underhood mount as there is zero space under there..:Wow1:

so far thats all I have planned. I would like to get a rear bumper, but havent found any that really speak to me yet, I also want to get some tube fenders. I love tube fenders. thats all for now.

Heres some pics!

Good luck keeping it clean and scratch free, one of my Jeeps is black and shows everything, it's also much hotter in the summer than our tan Jeep.

its a jeep, scratches are bound to happen. My dodge was black with black leather seats and I lived in 110* summers. I am well accustomed to heat. haha. Thanks for the tips though!

I saw one of the snow flex pictures and I couldn't see the "flex" part at first and I thought, "Man, ball joints already gone!?!?" :smilies27 Congrats!

Congrats!!! i'm still in the waiting room, scheduled for production but probably a couple weeks away from actually hitting the line. I too will be modding for family off road and camping. My wife is getting sick of all my jeep this and jeep that, and always says "I really cant understand why you need to do anything to a new vehicle..." She just doesn't get it, but I think she will after a few trips ;). I have all the major mods already planned out, just need to see about the moolah situation. Heck, I already have a hothead head liner kit arriving tomorrow, some silver hood decals (ghost effect on the billet jeep), and just today ordered some ACE rails.

Always good to see the build thread progress. Just remember, Jeeps are the most effective money pits in the world :yikes:

Have faith... The wives will come around! Mine wanted a Sahara, but I made her get a Rubi. Now it has 2.5" OME coils, I'm fabbing up a winch bumper, and as soon as the MTs wear out we will be going up a size or two in tires. Most of e mods have been in answer to her request to "beef up the jeep". Just try and park your jeeps beside built up JKs if you get a chance. That's the best way to show them what's up.

This... and take them off road without scaring the snot out of them... My wife eased into it through "soft roading"...

So far it's miles ahead of my old DD a 1/2 tom dodge with a 5.7l hemi I was getting 10's and 11's, this one gets 15. It's a short drive to work, barely warmed up by the time I get there.

I took it out to left hand canyon today, my boss got video of my going up some rocks, but I don't have the vid. I'll try to snag it from him soon.

Try owning 2 Jeeps, a diesel tow rig, 300hp Miata, a Mazda 3("her car"), and having a wife that likes it all. I guess it helps that they are all paid for and I got her input on the second Jeep and the tow rig BEFORE buying them.

TIP: Send her to 4x4 training, alone, without you anywhere nearby.

****, I want to do 4x4 training!

I periodically do events not toooooooo far from you. Willing to go to Redrock State Park near Randsburg/Mojave Airport area? My availability has been greatly curtailed in the past year or two due to the fact I no longer have a rig. Amazingly, I still hold training events 4 or 5 times a year. I just did a small there in Randsburg last month. If I can get a rig where I can ride shotgun, I'd be willing to meet you and do a formal training run. I've trained hundreds of people over the past 7 years or so. You can search my username here on ExPo related to past events in the CA forum. My services are free, so I never fail to meet expectations :)

Alternatively, I highly recommend Tom Severin who likes to conduct training at Hungry Valley, which is in the grapevine. He holds training quite frequently. His website is: http://www.4x4training.com/aboutus.html

And of course, Bill Burke is fantastic, but you need to go to him, which is usually in Colorado or Utah, and occasionally in SoCal (Anza Borrego): http://www.bb4wa.com/

I personally have completed training courses held by both, and highly recommend either of them.

On the topic of training, the BEST training I have ever been through is the 2 day Wilderness First Aid course. You can't Call 911 out in the boonies. WFA is the training you need when you need the training!

I would definitely take you up on your offer... If I still lived in California, I moved to Colorado in January. I have looked up the bill Burke school, I might have to try to get to one of those. Thank you.

I would like to do a WFA course as well, my self aid/ buddy care first aid training from the military was quite some time ago
