Skinny tires on a Gen 3?

IIRC the jeep JK bumpers are the right width and should fit with a couple of custom adapters for the mounting points on each side...
oops... Sorry, this works for a gen II and you're talking about a gen iii right?

I've got a few miles on my tires now, I'll try to post a full update at lunchtime with pictures, but the short version is, I love them! 235/85R16 Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx.

I like the skinny tires. Not only do they look good but they function well in off road and on road situations. I currently bought my 3rd set of BFG Rugged Terrain 235/85R16. While the Rugged Terrain is a newer design, I prefer them over the traditional BFG KO tires. I think they will eventually replace the KO but I could be wrong. Another skinny tire size that is much less common but would be worth looking into is the 255/85R16. I know Toyo and BFG make this size in selected models but they are harder to come by.

Do you have those on stock 7" wide wheels? I am looking to go as close to a 33" narrow tire as I can. I am not finding the size I want. I am entertaining the idea of 17x9 wheel replacement, but of course would like to save the money on wheels if I could.

Whatever happen to the days of asking for a 33x10.50 and getting it. Damn metric sizes with the percent factor!!! 😡

There are a few companies who still manufacture a 33x10.50r15, you just need to look them up.

Sorry I couldn't get to posting this earlier. As I told previously, I bought some used BFG KOs off craigslist to try out the tire size. I decided I liked it so have now purchased Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx in the 235/85R16 size. My dad has a set of Cooper Discoverer AT3 on his Mountaineer that perform great, but I wanted to be confident when I got offroad that my tires weren't going to let me down so I went up to the ST Maxxxxxxxxxxx. They have performed great in all conditions so far (no snow or ice yet in OK). The Monty feels very confident even on the turnpike at 75 or 80. Offroad is even better, though I haven't had a chance to go do any real wheeling yet. You do lose some cushion due to the stiff "E" rating of the skinny tires, but it's not bad.

I have them mounted on the wheels that the BFG tires came on. I was told they came off a Chevy pickup, I'm not sure on the width. I had to purchase different lug nuts for these wheels, the stock Montero ones will not work safely, but otherwise the wheel is a perfect fit.

Here are some pictures I took at work this morning, sorry for the poor quality. It turned out to be a dark wet day here.

Looking good, much better than I expected. I run the AT3's in that size on my Chevy diesel and the tires look tiny but ride very nicely.

That might be about perfect. I was debating 33" but not sure I "need" it. Love hearing your thoughts on the ST Maxx. Trying to find that right "aggressive AT" sort of tire that still has decent road manners

I put a lot of street miles on mine so the "aggressive AT" was definitely what I was going for. The ST Maxx has good siping, in the rain it's handled MUCH better than the BFGs. No ice or snow to test it out on yet. Mud has been great, haven't been in a deep hole but my driveway is a long unpaved two track through the woods that is alternately steep with loose rock and flat and muddy when wet - I get a little wheeling in everyday just going to work.

As far as the size, I'd like to eventually move to a 255/85R16 (~33") but there are not a lot of tire choices and I was worried about them fitting with no lift. I know that others on this forum have made that size fit a Gen 3 without a lift - it just seemed to me it would leave little room in the wheel well.
