If you want a cheaper alternative go to home depot and get a roll of the roof flashing that is rubber with the "tin" top coat. I used it on the inside of my factory JK speaker "boxes" it worked excellent. It really is the same stuff at a quarter of the price. Google it you'll see a lot of people will say the same.

Be careful with home repair type rubberized products. Some of them contain tar, which works great as a water seal. But, you really don't want it inside the confines of your vehicle. Breathing it can be hazardous to your health.

Thanks all. I have read all about that stuff from HD, but I also read how tar smelling it is, which is why I went with the FatMatt. For the firewall or the hood it might be a better spot...

Well I completed my homemade carpet kit! $20 from HomeDepo for a roll of 5'X7' carpet. The color marches great with the door panels and the rest of the interior. Trucks is a little quieter and feels a whole lot more solid. Love it! Wasn't too hard to install, just took some time cutting and fitting the carpet around the inside.

I also went up the rear of the cab. This 5x7 roll fit perfect in this truck. Only left with about a foot of excess trimmings.

Just added some left over carpet to the bottom of the doors. Adds a little more class!!

Comparing the size difference from the 295/70/17 Toyo's I took off my FJ (replaced with Firestone Destination MTs) recently to the stock 235/75/15. Amazing what power can do for you!!

Looking good! 33x10.5 fit fine on mine with very minimal work. No lift, just moved the front axle forwards an inch and a bit by re-drilling the spring perch and shortening the steering and torque linkages. Keep up the excellent work!

A little update. Been driving this truck almost everyday, love it! The FJ just sits, so I'm selling it. Cant have $30K sitting there looking pretty!

For the truck I found bucket seats from an 85' Toyota Pickup off Craigslist for $40! Could pass it up and what I have been looking for. Ha to make some custom brackets and re-drill some holes, but in the end it turned out great and comfy.

Also added some reverse lights LED I had laying around.

A little off topic but cool as well. My dad bought a trailer off my Aunt. Its all aluminum 5x8 made by Outback out of Idaho. Very light and well made and perfect for wood hauling (or moving, as what I will be doing next week). It took one trip to the ranch with stock tires to know that it needed to be lifted and fitted with better tires!

This was it stock. It rained that night so it was a slippery ride full of wood with stock trailer tires. (How they did not blow is beyond me)

When we got back to my parents house we sprung-over the trailer since the axle was square tubing, easy swap.

Then added some Super swapper Bias PLY TSL's. 29x8.5. Now its a great wood hauler and expo trailer!

This statement truly speaks for the quality of a well maintained Toyota pickup truck... selling a $30k FJ to DD a $400 '83 truck. Love it! I've enjoyed reading your thread and must admit that I have been searching CL for something similar.

I owned an '82 Toyota and can testify to there durability. It was a ************ ride with stock suspension and 31"s. Love this thread Derek, keep it up!

The money you'll be saving by selling your FJ will be nice to put into the old Pickup and other avenues!

It sure does say something. I really do enjoy driving the truck more so. The FJ is nice, but for me it's too nice to go beat up offroad. The power sure is nice compared to the truck!

Right on thanks! I'm in the air about going up to 31s or stay with the stock size. I might split the difference, BFG has their KM2s in a 30x9.50 that might look cool with the OME lift. We will see...

Yes it will! But I will be getting another SUV for our long road trips the lady and I take. I'm thinking a 3rd gen 4runner, I've always like them and they are relatively cheap and last forever.

Be careful to check those 30 x 9.50 tires, often the size listed is the nominal size. I.e. Most 31 x 10.5 tires are actually only 30.5 " tall, so you should look and see what BFG lists those at

I agree! Looks like the 31s are 30.8 and the 30s are 29.8. I like more of a skinny tire for this truck which is why I've been looking the the 30s. Firestone destination MT also as a 30x9.50 for a little cheaper.
