FJC replacement thread

Toyota is stopping production of the FJ cruiser. I also hear the hjc 70 series is also nearing the end. So what will Toyota replace the FJC with? Globalization of models surely is a good thing, right? Prados in the states? What say ye? I'm in the market for a Toyota & am curious what will be coming in the coming 24 -36 months.

Yup 4runner replaces FJC. They are making a TRD Pro version 4runner that will be coming out around October of this year. I'm sure Toyota is trying to capture all potential FJC buyers to purchase the 4runner.

We have the Prado but its just marketed as a Lexus here. I am bummed that Toyota didn't stick with the FJC concept and flushed it out a bit more in a second gen. Having a decontented offroad model is still attractive to alot of people. I mean, the Wrangler isn't doing well or anything is it? 4 runner is nice but way too many bells, whistles, and $$ for alot of folks. A stripper version with styling like the FJrunner would have sold like crazy.

Sales figures dwindling were the death of the FJC. I'm curious if Toyota will build a JK competitor in the coming year or two or if the 4runner/taco will be it.

The FJC was always meant for a single generation. Kudos to Toyota for putting it into production. It was kinda outta character for them to do so.

I'd guess the future is the prado platform. Solid axels will die with the 70. The next wrangler might not even have them.

I still say they shoulda gone FJ55-retro with the 5th-Gen 4Runner. The upright greenhouses of those two share more similar lines than we saw on the 4th-Gen-based FJ Runner.

Yeah, there won't be any replacement for the FJC. The last several year's sales were a blip in the market, so there's no need to develop one. They'll just sell more 4Runners.

And count me in on the wish that they would offer a decontented Trail Edition 4Runner. If I ever got rid of my FJC I could definitely go for a 4Runner with the same hard plastic interior.

Corporate average fuel mileage standards killed the fj. Can't have too many big trucks bringing down the average

Among other things. But the CAFE standards weren't a large factor in letting the FJC go when the 4Runner and Tacoma (with nearly the same MPG ratings) contributed much more to Toyota's corporate MPG by outselling the FJC several times over.

The FJC was not cost-effective on many levels, and its sales numbers were not nearly worth the $$,000,000's involved in developing a 2nd-Gen version.

I would buy a land cruiser prado in a heartbeat. It could replace my 3rd gen and sit next to the wife's 5th gen.
