Trail gear vs All Pro front/rear bumpers and sliders.

Trying to decide which to get for my 97 4WD. Wondering which do you guys recommend? Thinking of getting the font bumper without the hoops.

I think it is a lot of personnel preference. I have an ARB front bumper, All Pro rear bumper, and Trail Gear sliders.

I looked seriously at the Trail Gear front bumper and even tried to order one but the company I tried to buy it from fell through. Got the ARB later on.

I like the All Pro rear. It was a little rough and requires some cleaning up before painting. Also never got the license plate lights for it. Fits good though.

I went with the Trail Gear sliders simply for the price. I got my set for $140 shipped during a special. They are not fancy but neither are anyone else's. did only get 7 legs instead of 8.

If I were to do it all over I would keep the ARB front, buy some nicer, bolt-on sliders with a kick out, and some sort of rear plate bumper that I could add a swing out to.

Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the feedback. I would like to get a swing out tire carrier, but I haul dirt bikes in the bed and need to have the tail gate down, so can't use one.

Through the years, both of my trucks have had items from TG and AP. In my opinion, AP edges out TG every time. I have an ARB on front of my Tacoma with AP sliders and rear bumper. The slider and bumpers have the fill panels and I added a swing out to the rear bumper.
AP has free shipping at times, so I jumped on one of those deals and bought the sliders and bumper and saved some cash.

Going to disagree with some of the above comments. I prefer the TG stuff. Their front bumper is a much better design IMO with the completely bolt on crossmember. It works with a variety of aftermarket skid plates which the AP one does not. You have to run their skidplate unless you modify their bumper. I've been running TG sliders on my Taco and my FZJ80 for years now with lots of abuse and they have no dents or bends. You can get them with fillplates if you want them. I don't like fill plates so just straight tube for me.
.
really comes down to some aesthetic preference after that, and for me I MUCH prefer the look of the TG bumper.
I welded on my own light hoop to protect my lights, but it started out as the standard low profile bumper

without the lightbar

Why not Marlin???

I've always preferred the aesthetics/design of Marlins stuff and he's certainly one of the innovators of such products... I can also attest to how well their armor works. My 1st Gen would likely be completely written off at this point were it not for Marlin bumpers which have stopped everything from moron drivers in the snow to idiot Portland transplants who don't know where they're going at 65mph on the freeway... Were I not going full-custom on my diesel build I'd be going back to Marlin without hesitation for my new truck.

Cheers

I forgot that you have the TG bumpers. I like how the light bar was done. Looks like that the TG bumper has a better approach angle than the AP bumper. I have heard that some people cut out the winch mount on the AP bumper to get a better approach angle.

Can you also elaborate why you like AP over TG?

Only have a TG front bumper. I built my own rear bumper. I bent my own lightbar on the front bumper too. The one TG offers isn't wide enough for 3 lights.
.
Clearance is definitely better on the TG bumper over the AP one. It's also a personal preference but I really like the receiver tube on the TG front bumper. AP doesn't have that feature.
