Fuso FG6x6 vs. FMTV?
I suspect the gross cost difference would favor the FMTV, by a long shot.

2. Conversion Materials
3. Conversion Labor
4. Conversion Timeframe
5. Don't forget a complete set [7] of new tires
Then again, a 1994 LMTV M1078 by Stewart Stevenson [1500 miles] is asking for $18K on CL/CA Inland Empire.
Yeah, it's only 4x4 but the tires can be aired down for most any desert travel.
FMTV's or LMTV's were built for this task in mind... they may have their shortcomings, but the relatively low entry cost likely outweighs the benefits of the build you have in mind.
