1994 Full Size Blazer project

Howdy all! Wanted to throw up some pics and info on my latest purchase/project rig.

My wife, kids, and I recently moved back to Idaho after 7 long years away. I decided it was time to find another family adventure vehicle that would get us back into the mountains that we are so blessed to have at our fingertips. I never intended to purchase a full size SUV, but when this one came up for sale, I couldn’t pass it up.

1994 Chevy full size Blazer (last year for the “Blazer” designation on the full size).

Purchased last November with just under 117,000 on the odometer. I bought it locally from a younger guy who was looking for something newer and with better fuel economy. ? He had purchased it from the original owner just months before hand. It was dirty but I could see the potential!!!

The things that this vehicle checked off my list were:

-Reliable engine, transmission, and transfer case
-Easy to source parts for
-Room for my wife, our 3 kids, and I
-Spacious cargo area
-Ample fuel capacity (32 gallon tank)
-Full frame
-Comfortable interior while not being overly complicated
-Fuel Injected
-Clean and well maintained

Here are some pictures of how it looked as purchased:

First things first, a full detail and to ditch the bug shield and stick on chrome.

After I got it cleaned up, it was time to fix some much needed items.

The exhaust looked like a blindfolded high school ag student welded it.

Also needed some tires badly. I still haven’t decided exactly what I am going to do with the suspension so a slightly larger than stock Hankook Dynapro ATM tire was ordered off eBay for $350 shipped to my door for the set. You can also see the new exhaust in the second picture. Flowmaster 50 series with 3” pipe from the Y-pipe back.

The rear diff cover had a small leak that was noticed on the test drive. It looked as if I was missing a cover bolt. Upon closer inspection, the bolt had snapped off inside the housing. Some drilling, tapping, and whole lot of cussing under my breath, and I was able to get things repaired. A quick diff fluid change turned into a two evening ordeal. 0D289F53-BC60-4D66-8191-49F0014D83F1.jpeg

Nice Blazer, that's a clean one for sure. I'm on my second set of Hankooks on my wife's Trailblazer. Love them. Good in snow too.

I was really impressed with how the new tires did in the snow!

While browsing through Facebook marketplace, I was able to land a couple of sweet deals. First off, a Rhino Rack rooftop basket to haul our larger camping gear.

Also found a fully functional Warn 8274 with the remote, mounting plate, fairlead, and cable for $200. ??
Just need to take it all apart, paint everything, give it a good service, and buy a decal kit.

Next up was to get this thing running tip top. I had a small miss that ended up being a bad plug wire. The distributor was looking pretty bad inside so I decided to replace it as well. New plugs, wires, distributor, fuel pump, filter, and 02 sensor and it’s running like a top. Also cleaned the throttle body, injectors, replaced the air filter, and tested all the engine control sensors just to be sure.

Super exciting and beneficial modification. Floor mats and seat covers. ? I wasn’t really digging the Mossy Oak ones that came with the Blazer.

Also couldn’t handle the tiny GRANT steering wheel anymore. Went digging around at the local junk yard and came home with this. 50B230DF-DEF6-408D-95E4-6CABB7795AE3.jpeg
