K5 Camper guy
Last I heard the new Ranger and Bronco both will be IFS. But I'm not a Ford guy so I haven't been following the hoopla bringing either back that closely. As a Jeep fighter the Bronco will play second fiddle. The off road types just gravitate to the solid axle stuff. The FJ Cruiser is proof of what will come of the Bronco. Like the FJ, the Ford faithful will buy them up and once the "new" wears off, sales will slide and ultimately cease to be produced. The Jeep will continue to soldier on.
As far as solid axle swaps go, there's a few companies now producing kits to simplify going from IFS to solid. ORD sells one of the more complete kits for the IFS GM trucks that is well regarded. Granted going into one with limited fab skills would limit success. It is another way to get the best parts of GM tech in the solid engine/transmission combos they have with a solid front axle vs finding and building a squarebody.
I'm a GM/Chevy guy through and through (as one might guess), but for my needs I wouldn't be buying a new truck even if it had a SFA. I won't be buying a new Ram or Ford either if they did. I don't see spending $40-50k on a new truck I might beat up off road in my future. I'm set in my ways and enjoy being different with my K5. The looks I get on trail from Toyota and Jeep guys are priceless. So worth it.
