Why I'll never buy another Chevy!

Last I heard the new Ranger and Bronco both will be IFS. But I'm not a Ford guy so I haven't been following the hoopla bringing either back that closely. As a Jeep fighter the Bronco will play second fiddle. The off road types just gravitate to the solid axle stuff. The FJ Cruiser is proof of what will come of the Bronco. Like the FJ, the Ford faithful will buy them up and once the "new" wears off, sales will slide and ultimately cease to be produced. The Jeep will continue to soldier on.

As far as solid axle swaps go, there's a few companies now producing kits to simplify going from IFS to solid. ORD sells one of the more complete kits for the IFS GM trucks that is well regarded. Granted going into one with limited fab skills would limit success. It is another way to get the best parts of GM tech in the solid engine/transmission combos they have with a solid front axle vs finding and building a squarebody.

I'm a GM/Chevy guy through and through (as one might guess), but for my needs I wouldn't be buying a new truck even if it had a SFA. I won't be buying a new Ram or Ford either if they did. I don't see spending $40-50k on a new truck I might beat up off road in my future. I'm set in my ways and enjoy being different with my K5. The looks I get on trail from Toyota and Jeep guys are priceless. So worth it.

I am no fan of GM, I give the ZR2 a pass because it earned it, but I still poo on GM. So in that regard I will give you some shine since everyone else is flexing on you lol. You wanted feedback and discussion and you got it in spades. I prefer blunt honesty so I see no issue with what transpired here. Keep working at it and keep your chin up, this is a good community full of knowledge and decent folks.

Of course the resident dodge troll loves your video, he's just like the resident ford troll buliwyf who live pathetic lives pushing their hatred of GM on everyone no matter what or why just trying to ram their garbage down everyones throat, one thing you don't see on the portal is some GM lover imitating these 2 trolls behavior yet the "mods" just let it go on no matter, so here comes the youtube troll firing up the other trolls, I don't believe you like much less own any GM products, I believe you picked GM to pump up your video hits like I said before, and like I said before, you are getting hits, so once again golf clap for you....

Lol. Didn't even watch the video, but can you imagine someone doing this in the Toyota forum? That thread would be 15-20 pages long by now.

LOL, I make negative comments about a specific auto maker one time and suddenly now I am given the title "resident Dodge troll?" I think becoming "resident" anything requires more than one scenario or instance where I defended or desecrated upon a specific item/group/make.

For starters I never said I liked his video, I barely watched any of it at all. I simply popped in to let the guy know that it isn't all bad here and he should continue to mold his craft/hobby regardless of the criticisms. Maybe you should heed that suggestion as well?

OP, don't mind this guy, he's just still bent out of shape about another thread where he had to defend his beloved GM's (I totally forgot about that thread btw). Show us where the bad man touched you @NevadaLover !

If I am a resident Dodge troll then you certainly must be the resident GM troll. By the way, I've only ever owned one Dodge, my current truck is a Ram (they are no longer a Dodge product smarty pants) and I have had far more Jeeps, Toyotas, and Fords than I ever have any other make. It'd be much safer to call me a Ford troll but I certainly can't take that crown from @Buliwyf.

If you paid attention to anything the OP said in his posts or video you would see that he has owned quite a few GM products and still currently owns one, it's in his Sig pic for crying out loud. Apparently you came in here just to spew some hate yourself and to take a page out of your book,
"pushing your hatred of anyone who doesn't LOVE GM on everyone no matter what or why just trying to ram their garbage down everyones throat" lolololol. It's obvious why you felt the need to chime in, the title alone must have "triggered" you!

Thanks for popping in and expressing your butt-hurt to yet another thread!

You came into the domestic section and said next time you will buy a Toyota or Jeep. Maybe try a different section on the forum. As far as GM goes I have never been into them in anyway. Literally the opposite of a fan boy. But if I was in the market the current Colorado would be at the top of my list.

I appreciate that. Truly. I really dont understand the need for hostility or name calling. It's a simple video that is not even bashing GM. I love GM. It's a piece for discussion. I'm sure I am not the only one that feels this way. I thought people could discuss the topic with some insight (and many have) but it's a shame that people automatically become nasty and hostile. I never would have expected this on this forum. It has always been supportive in the past. But I wont let the criticism bother me. You cant make everyone happy.

All great points! I just ultimately wish they would give us more.

I'd say GM has given us quite a bit in recent years. Right now, they're the only North American OEM to offer a midsized pickup, with front and rear lockers and a diesel engine. They're literally giving us the 'Hilux' type pickup that us Overlanding snobs have been seeking for 20 years now.

GM is also about to launch a new inline 6 diesel for their 1/2 ton's. Aren't there locking rear diff options for most of their 1/2 ton's too?

How much more do you want? How much more do you need? I mean for Christ's sake, you're comparing GM's 'deficiencies' to the supposed overlanding benchmark, Toyota, which doesn't even offer a rear locker on the Tundra or the Landcruiser. TRD has become a badging brand; the changes they make to their top-tier overland models are quite tame compared to what GM and even Ford does to their offroad variants.

And this is in context to the past. I remember seeing my first Raptor in like 2011 and thinking to myself "when is Chevy gonna do that?". Here we are 7 years later and it's finally getting addressed.

Why is the Raptor the benchmark by which we should compare all other 'offroad' 1/2 tons? It's great for one thing and one thing only: going fast over open desert tracks. It's too wide (wider than most 3/4 ton and nearly as long) to make it a practical technical crawler. It's payload is severely neutered for a truck of its size (mostly due to the suspension set up). I appreciate the Raptor's design and capabilities, but most of us don't want or need a truck that can go over minor jumps. GM, and the other OEM's, don't need to worry about trying to match the Raptor; they need to build durable, reliable trucks that can carry decent weight and get over mildly technical terrain.

I’m quite frustrated every time I hear a youtube journalist get into a new truck and use the Raptor as the offroading benchmark....the Raptor is a Baja-wannabe, and its design has limited relevance for true offroading and overlanding.

Don't get me wrong, I am glad about this. I just don't think it's gonna get me back to buying a Chevy. I just think they could release something that was a true competitor for the off road market (Colorado aside). I just don't see it right now. But imagine if they re released the K5! Or hell, even your truck re released! Btw, that is a ************** rig!!! But that is what I would love to see! Something like a K10, solid axles, lockers, LS engine. A true Jeep killer package.

I don’t understand why you’re singling out GM for not building a direct competitor to the Jeep. Literally no one else (including Toyota and Ford) are building anything that directly competes with the Jeep either. There is a very limited market for a front solid axle, midsized BOF SUV, and right now FCA has the reigns on that market.

It just doesn't seem like you're applying your criticisms of GM in a fair and principled manner.

I'll be honest, this is the feedback I was looking for. A solid good opinion versus the matter. I appreciate and you make an excellent arguement. I use the Raptor as an example because is was a bold move and a good contribution to the off road community. One that was made like 7 years ago. Sure, I do agree GM is making changes. But it is also late in the game. And I would agree with you to some extent on the TRD badges. But also, people keep bringing up the Colorado. Sure, nice... but I built one on line with an msrp of $50k. For a mid size that seems insane. All I did was click like two packages. I mean, if that's a competator for Toyota, jesus. My TRDPro was only $44k. But you are correct. The Tundra doesnt have a rear locker. But it does come in at like 386 horse on the TRDPro package for $46k. No matter what, I think you make great points. Still though, I think GM could step it up. Once again though, it's only my opinion on it.

You can find brand new diesel ZR2's going for $39k on auto-trader, gasoline ZR2's are a bit cheaper. That's right in line with the pricing for the TRD Tacoma.

You can't go off MSRP on the OEM website, you have to go off what the market is dictating.

Edit: And considering what you actually get with the ZR2 versus what you don't get the TRD Tacoma, I'd say the pricing for the ZR2 is quite fair.

I will be honestly, I only built one online, so I can argue that point at all. All things aside, I do like it, and i do think it is sharper looking than the Tacoma.
