Hairy Apple's camping trailer build.

I started this project with a friend last summer, we got the frame built, but nothing else. THen I started to build a new shop, and all my time and energy went into that, and the frame went into storage and we waited. Finally, this summer, we got back to it. Got suspension welded on, and an axle hung.

The axle is a random axle we got for free, with a parts FJ40. The hubs are built from FJ40 drum brake hubs, and we left the locking hubs on to match the FJ40. They are gutted, and 100% just for looks before everyone asks a million times about them.

With the frame now able to roll, we towed the trailer up to my shop and got started on the trailer body. We had the sides bent at a shop in Sacramento, and other then the axle, and bending the sides, these are the only parts that I did not build myself.

We used rectangle tubing around the top, to make a mating surface for the lid, and to keep the body square and strong.

And started on the rear bumper, steps, tow points, ect.

Front steps, fenders, a harbor freight box, and this is about where we are at today. I need to finish the fenders, build the tailgate, build the lid, and then it's off to get painted. It will be painted to match my buddies olive FJ40 in the first post.

I am not really sure, steel prices went through the roof half way through, so our original guess of $1500ish is way shot now. I'd say, by the time we are done, $2500 or so.

Steel prices have definitely gone up, I am trying to decide if I should build my own tub or buy one already made and just build the frame from that

Man looks great, you need a dimpling die for all those holes. That would put it over the top. Cant wait to see how it ends up.

Thank you. We've only been at it a year. lolol. Really though, we are working on it for half a day a week, so we're getting a lot done with the limited time we've had to work on it. I also took a few months off working on it, to build a shop.
