LC 100 or Lexus 470

Looking at an early 2000-2002 models of LC 100 or Lexus 470. What do I need to know? What would you consider too high of miles? It is my understanding that the Lexus 470 is just a little more plush but can be outfitted in the same manner. What do you think is a fair price range to be looking for?

Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated!

here in san diego they go for around 15-20k. This is a nice example with medium miles. Thats what I've seen anyways. Lexus's are obviously on the higher end. I also understand Lexus' to be the same as far as bumpers and lifts, but not positive. My dad had a 100 before he got is 80 series, and it seemed that Slee offroad listings were either/or.

Slee ofroad, Ventura 4x4, IH8mud.com, etc. are all good sources of information.

Edit: yup, here's a bumper page on Slee's site:http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/bumpers/front_bumpers_100series.htm

it lists either/or at least for ARB front winch bumpers.

a cruiser (especially a 100 Series) has a long time before it has "too many miles". Honestly, they havent been around long enough for them to really rack up 3-4 hundred thousand miles. My 2000 has 120K and hasnt even begun to show weakness. then again, mines been babied :)

what are your plans in the future with it? that will tell which one will be best for you.

I really like the LX470's, if my landcruiser could have the ride quality of a LX, id rather have it. but I love the classic look upfront of the landcruiser. the lx has to much stuff going on.

Let me start off by saying that I totally regret selling my 2000 LX470. I purchased it in 2006 with 78K miles for about $21,000 (this was in Hawaii so the prices might be a little distorted). It felt like it was brand new and drove like a dream. I wish I would have kept it, I got a little crazy and went through a few vehicles in a short amount of time .

The only thing that you really have to worry about that is different from the Land Cruisers is the AHC suspension. If you want to read more about this do a SEARCH HERE for anything 100-Series related. If you are going to do an aftermarket lift then it is really a non-issue.

I am seriously considering buying another 100 in the future.

Here is a picture of my LX with an ARB Sahara winch bumper.

Future plans would include a modest buildup and strictly used for camping/exploring the desert southwest...thanks for all the insights so far...

IMO I would try to get a 2003 LC with the 5-speed tranny (first year for the 5-speed) rather than an '02 LX. The 5-speed makes a big difference according to my wheel'n buds that have had both.

I hope this isn't hijacking... I have a couple comments.

I wouldn't mind an 03+, but the biggest issue I have is with the NAV and integrated HVAC controls. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't like being tied to the touch screen to control the A/C. Does anyone see this as a potential issue as these vehicles age? I haven't confirmed this yet, but it looks like Toyota did away with HVAC controls integrated with NAV on the 200??

You can control the Nav from the push buttons either on the side or below the touch screen. The problem arises if/when the nav goes south you are without HVAC AFAIK.

There are a few Hundys out there without Nav but their tough to find.

Also moved back to 4.10s from 4.30s too. I preferred the 4.30s. IIRC torque peak is a little higher in the RPM (not desirable for off-highway, but let's be real will any of us notice?) and thus a few more tranny and taller gears help widen the power band

The 5 speed is all around better then the 4 speed even with the higher rear end.
With the 5 speed you get a 15% lower 1st even when you factor the 4.10 rear end. You pick up a gear between 1st and 2nd. And with the slight change in OD you end up with a lower highway cruising RPM.

If you dont mind Black '04 LC 64k ext warr etc LINK

'03+ are the perfect candidates for 4.88's for a laden Hundy.
