To take mine off it would be a two to three person job.
I can not see one doing it unless you have a pulley system setup like you can mount to a garage ceiling.

Autohomeus.com sells one for roof top tents, and I am sure it would work on any model out there.

How does a single person mount and dismount AT roof tent ? I will be mounting model 1800 on to thule xporter rack system .

I've done a "Gods must be crazy type system where I removed the RTT with my Winch" and yes before anyone goes on and on about winches are not meant to lift loads please save you breath, I'm well aware. The safe way is with a pulley system but most garages don't have an opening big enough to accommodate truck and RTT. 2 Strong guys or 3 wimpy ones might work just fine, also consider you vehicle height to you and your companions strength and height. Mos find out that there hold overhead strength is not so much when it is too late.

I believe the intent of restriction lifting loads for the winch is that the cable is supposed to come out of the spool at 90 degrees and parrallel with the ground, as the mounting systems are design to withstand the stress only in that direction. I don't see why it would be an issue to lift with a winch, if a pulley is used first to allow the cable to come straight out, and then be redirected. Can anyone argue that?

I am not certain what the 1800 series tent weighs but the RacorPro PHL-1R works well with my Jeep Unlimited 3 piece Freedom Top - lift is rated for 250 pounds. The main portion of the hard top is supported by two ratchet straps tied into the lift platform with the other two pieces stacked on top of the platform. I ordered it from Amazon with free shipping and understand that Costo.com has them available as well.

Just a thought....

I used a old hardwood ladder as a rail up and over my FJC spare tire (on the back door). I ratchet-strapped the RTT to the roof rack (for saftey), then slid the RTT up the ladder and onto the rack. Easy? not really, but defintely doable. I now have a manual chain hoist in my garage for easy installation/removal on and off my M100 trailer.

I was able to get my large camping lab tent on the roof by my self. It wasn't easy and included many steps of slowley raising it on things.

I know I won't be able to get it down which I do need to do.

Need to work on that.

You guys either have very heavy tents or don't work out.....:)

ok the 1600 is quite large...thats 62"

Mine's 60" and I can lift it onto the truck myself...no its not easy, but with
a few blankets protecting paint work

lean against truck grab the bottom and lift.

I've used simple ratchet straps before too.

lift one side ratchet up- one side is light enough to lift

lift other side and keep going till its out of the way.

drive the truck back out-done

really its not that much a weight, just the size makes it cumbersome

Cargo storage rack, converted.......

If you have some kind of overhang, or garage joists that are high enough you can use this set up.

What I did was buy a garage storage system from Sears and dump the shelves. It comes with a hand crank which I cut off and use my hand drill to raise and lower the rack. In this pic you can see it above the Cherokee. I think it was under $100.00.
