XJ Expidition Rig/Apache Camper.

I recentley bought my second XJ Sport, I sold my first one 2 years ago missed it ever since. Now I have a 14month old daughter and some time to build my rig. I want this to be my DD and for traveling cross country, trails, beach. I also aquired an old Apache (i think) Trailer from my grandfather. the original pop up canvas top rotted and needs to go.

Ideas:
Rig, all the basics, lift, wheels tires, driveshaft spicer sye.. etc all that jazz
bumpers,lights, roof rack. I want something that is not a mudder or a rock crawler.

Camper, needs a lift, if i can bigger wheels refab of storage. and one of thoose fancy tents that are newer i see some have on top of there rig.

So i'm new to the exploring/expedition side anyone with any info photos, knowledge I would love to hear it..

His build is a fun read with a lot of detailed information. Likes yours, his is geared more towards a true expedition / back-country exploration vehicle than a rock or mud built rig.

For doing a lift kit on the camper, is it leaf sprung? I got a set of heavy duty leaf packs for my XJ when I was doing my lift from my dads friend who is manager at the local truck parts store. If you take the trailer to a similar store (the one I went to was Inland Truck Parts) they'll measure the existing leaf springs and will be able to find replacements that will give your trailer some lift to fit bigger tires. Or they might be able to hook you up with airbags too.

these are not my trailer but these are from the web. 1960-64 Apache pop-up. I dont think it's going to work the way i want, in my state you need fenders over the wheels, and i know i need to lift this thing, any thoughts??

and any info on this, is it a stock tow hook> it is badly bent and i hope it did not mess up the front bumper

Welcome to ExPo. Your old rig looks familiar for some reason.

Did you recently buy the Apache on ebay?

That towhook appears to be either the Mopar bracket kit or aftermarket. But i have never seen that particular hook itself. It's common to bend that bracket assembly.

yup its bent alright .. you can buy better brackets for those at most jeep/ 4x4 off road/ aftermarket ... you get the idea the better ones bolt to the uniframe bumper mounts... cool trailer.. you might wanna look at this thread for some ideas on the wheel / suspension / fender idea
