Paint on bonnet black out?

Has anyone panted on a bonnet black out? I understand the reasons for using a decal but painting would be cheeped and last a hella lot longer. Black vinyl even high end vinyl on a hood just has a short life.

I painted mine. Just used a flat black paint. Masked off, sanded. Remasked because the sanding damages the edge, then paint. Piece of cake. Plus, flat black paint is "flatter" than a decal. The only downside is flatblack paint has a fairly rough texture that traps dirt more. I find that texture wears smooth over time.

On my oldFJ60 I rattle can painted it. taped it off and sanded it primed it, &used good flat black paint. When I sold the 60 it was still looking good 2yrs later.
On my FJ Cruiser I took the hood to a body shop. I checked prices at a dz shops & got prices from $40.00 - $210.00.

I painted mine with flat black Rustoleum and used a rough 4" roller.

It still looks good and has faded little in three years.

I painted mine about 8 years ago, did another coat last year. So about $15 in about 14 or 15 years.
One reason people claim to want a decal is so they can remove it if they sell the vehicle. What they forget is that if a decal is left on for any length of time on certain colors, you're going to see a difference in the paint when you remove it because of fading in the surrounding area.

I just rattle can sprayed it after prepping it. It is what it is. If it looks bad I clean it and re-spray it. 5 minutes. :)

Not yet. But soon this is just preemptive planning. I'm trying to decide is I want to get a Low Pro SD rack or a Lo Pro Baja Rack. I have even toyed with selling the rover and just building out my Wrangler in to an Expedition truck.

Just have to see.

I blacked out mine because the light from the Sun would catch the hood just right and shine directly into my eyes.

Just get a 7-year vinyl and stick it on. Isn't really all that hard to do. I'm willing to bet a painted on hood blackout would come off quicker than a vinyl blackout.

Nope. My painted blackout is going strong after three years.

Properly prepped paint will likely outlast vinyl, IMO.
