Just Ordered A Winch..

I just ordered a Ruggid Ridge 8500 winch with synthetic line. I did some research and noticed that there are ALOT of Jeepers running the Smittybilt winches and it has pretty good reviews except for the synthetic line. The Ruggid Ridge however was 50 bucks more to the comparable model Smittybilt and uses all stainless hardware and has a better synthetic line. I also got a Ruggid Ridge recovery kit, all for $593 bucks shipped. Plus there is a manufacturers rebate of $50. I am going to mount it in my ARB front bumper.

Next up: Rock Sliders. What is the consensus on the best looking/functioning sliders out there for 1st Gen Tacoma's?

Nice DC!
I like sliders that have a kickout at the rear to help pivot and guard rear as you go around a rock.
Lots of good manufacturers, AllProOffroad has sliders like I am talking about.

hadn't heard of that winch mfg. I'll look into them.

Yep. They are pretty much exclusively Jeep people. I bought it at autoanything.com They have free shipping which is normally around 50-60 bucks for a winch and a 10% discount code. Then the manufacturer has rebates as well.

As far as sliders go, I have been looking at the rocky-road.com sliders or the Allpro offroad but they do not come powder coated so I am looking at another 150 bucks just for that.

If you all have sliders, post up some pics of what you have and who made them!:ylsmoke:

stubbswelding.com has nice kick-out ones, and if you want it tight to the body go with demello offroad (they usually have a christmas sale.)

Superwinch LP10000 Series Winch.. $370 shipped..

A step up is the Sperwinch EPi9.0 for $580 shipped..

The speed and low current draw of the EPi9.0 can't be touched until you get into the high speed T-Max and Warn competition winches at over $1000..

I had every intention of getting the EPi, but found a smoking deal on a Bumper w/ a MileMarker SE9500 for $525 shipped.. NEW. If/when the Mile Marker gives up the ghost, it'll be replaced with a Superwinch..

You're not stomping on my party, as those winches aren't what I was looking for. If you read what I typed, you will see that I ordered a winch with a synthetic line and I ordered a recovery kit. when its all said and done with rebates i paid $543 for it. If I wanted a steel cable I would have saved $200 bucks.

I have no desire to run a cable winch. They are more dangerous and weigh a significant amount more.

Good looking truck.

As for sliders, I really like my Trail-Gear ones. I have them on my Land Cruiser too. They don't have a kickout like some have mentioned but they work great and it's hard to beat the price. If you can do a little finish welding you'd be set.

Not too many pics specifically of my sliders but you should be able to see them on the truck in this one.

You have a nice looking truck yourself.

I have actually put the trail gear sliders into consideration. They also have the rear frame reinforcement plates that I am planning on installing as well.

I am still partial to the AllPro sliders, but they are kinda high.

id think twice about the powder coating if your going to actually use the sliders. i bought a set of trail gear sliders for my taco and had them powder coated but im gonna end up just tremclading them. when you scratch them up its gonna be a pain in the *** to re powder coat compared to just touching them up with a spray can of tremclad. just my $.02.

Truck looks great btw. :Wow1:

Another vote for Stubbs sliders. I got them in bare metal and rattle caned them for easy touch-up in the future. Great service and product.

Here are a few pics:

Thats a good point...... Maybe a raw finish and rattle canning them is the way to go. :costumed-smiley-007

I too will advise against powdercoat for the same reasons. It will get scratched and a rattlecan job is easy to freshen up. I like the Rustoleum Hammerfinish- its really durable and covers up gouges nicely.

I agree with this. Which is why I always just rattle can my sliders. Rustoleum Black - Satin Finish is a very close match to most black powdercoat like the ARB Bumpers for example. MUCH easier to touchup when needed than powdercoating. And in my experience it holds up really well overtime anyway.
