Poor mans Tundra build

report...

I have begun to strip down the "monster" as i call it. This weekend i totally changed out the two tailgates. I changed the guts and the handle and have been making a bunch of repairs that my poor old Tundra has needed for a long time. The guy who owned the "monster" really took good care of it. Everything looks new and beautiful. Even the screws and bolts look shiny and new. Mine are so used and gross its embarrassing.

I am attempting to get the bumpers off but it is proving difficult. The rear bumper bolts are stripped and the front bolts have been bent in the roll over so... i'm thinking a peanut grinder is the answer. I will post some pics later.

P.S. i have looked at your pics quite a few times... its hard to find good first generation pics and aftermarket items.

You just have to know where to look.

Plenty of pictures/ideas on TTORA and Tundra Solutions.

For mods I would do suspension, coil overs on the front and upgrade the rear shocks, maybe new leaf packs if the stockers are sagging, decent all terrain tires, a fiberglass topper, and try to keep it as stock looking as possible.

Heading out on an expedition adventure this week... We are headed to the san rafael swell. My truck is no where near ready. I really wanted the storage and bed platform to be done, but it isn't. This will be a mini test run.

My fathers sons will be next month. We will be at the bottom of buckhorn wash, mexican mountain road etc.. Is that near where you will be?

No that is about 4 miles south as the crows fly, but much further if we had to back track, and follow the road. Where you are going is about 25-30 miles into the Swell from the store in Cleveland.

Swell adventure

So we went to the swell this week and it was a mixed bag... The first 2.5 days it snowed, hailed, rained and was obviously cold. Then yesterday was extremely windy and today it was 70. All in all it was a good trip. I was able to get really sore going for a good horse back ride and explore some new 4x4 trails up on top. Here are a few pictures. I think i have made a decision...

I was excited to test out the new topper on this trip, but i wasn't happy that i didn't have my sleep platform and storage system ready. I was worried that without the added inches the platform allows above the wheel wells i wouldn't be able to sleep comfortably with someone else in the bed. Well... i was wrong. It worked great. I am contemplating just going modular with all my gear and equipment. It would enable me to still retain the bed space for moving things and being... well.. a truck. I love everyones builds and i envy them, but until i can get a beater truck i will still have to utilize mine for hauling purposes. Of course this is the poor mans build, so it is also cheaper. Please let me know any thoughts on this.

Open them in Microsoft picture manager, and resize them to web large. It works for all of mine.
