2003 Toyota Tundra 4wd Limited Access Cab with Flippac Tent Camper and Dual Battery - $17,500

I am the owner - cross posting my truck here. https://boulder.craigslist.org/cto/d/louisville-2003-toyota-tundra-flippac/7731084627.html If this ad is still up, it is still for sale. This is a lower mileage (136,xxx miles) Toyota Tundra Access Cab with the iForce V8 engine and 4wd with...

    Southco Rotary Latches

Has anyone used Southco Rotary Electronic Latches before? I'd like to put them in my next build so I can use a key fob to lock, unlock, or open a custom rear door. But despite their site looking very targeted towards "vehicles" I'm not seeing any posts on here of people using them in DIY builds...

What Toyota truck for Box Camper build?

Maybe it's confirmation bias, but your post was sort of exactly what I was looking for. I reached the same conclusions - it's not that the HD trucks wouldn't do the job and have good bang for the buck, but the amount of money that would just be sitting in the driveway, maybe not getting used...

What Toyota truck for Box Camper build?

Definitely on my mind! Maybe this first one is just a practice build. But like many Sprinter people, the idea of driving a $60k+ vehicle through brush and scraping it on rocks seems crazy. Especially when it comes with buying a the first model year vehicle. But the upside is that it could tow...

What Toyota truck for Box Camper build?

My understanding of the American full size market is that you really get the 300k+ mile reliability only with the diesels - like Ford's 7.3 or 6.7, Cummins 6.7, Duramax 6.6, but they all come on pretty massive vehicles and for the all of them the emissions systems largely offset diesel...

What Toyota truck for Box Camper build?

Well that's funny timing: https://overlandjournal.com/principles-of-overlanding-the-toyota-tundra-for-overlanding/ Found it useful, still have questions. I think the biggest takeaway is that, due to the Tundra sharing a lot with Land Cruiser platforms, 1st and 2nd gen have excellent reliability...

What Toyota truck for Box Camper build?

Yep, my 03 is probably the same, 4 gears. It really struggles to tow well but seems pretty decent on it's own - even with a flippac, a full load, 33"s and a small lift it seems capable enough and I've gotten 20 mpg on trips to the mountains in CO at 10k feet with mostly highway but definitely...

What Toyota truck for Box Camper build?

Yep, especially those 3. Maybe the 5.7 would be worst but it would actually be able to do the speed limit over mountain passes. So I have a buddy with a newer Ford 2.7 that’s in the shop a lot… do you have any other ‘sweet spot’ rigs? I would have guessed the 3.5 Ford would be better and...

What Toyota truck for Box Camper build?

Yep, very cool. He also has a walk around with another guy in SLO named Mark that built a full camper, but I think he’s 800lb over GVWR. But yep, the intent is probably something lighter still than Overland Under Budget. I was assuming option 2 (06 Tundra) would do that better. 2015-17s are...

What Toyota truck for Box Camper build?

Hey all, I want to build a small and light camper for family use, preferably on a Toyota platform. It would mostly be something small to get outside in more often, not something we'd wheel hard or take overseas. I have experience with TIG welding, composite layups, CAD and FEA, so the 'box'...

Build: Ram 3500 and Aluminum/Composite Expedition Camper

Great build. I think I ran into you two at Overland expo in 2017. I think in one of the videos (can’t find it again) there was a mention of the roof leaking, due to an issue but not a design problem. Can you describe what happened? Really enjoying following along on YouTube but also being able...

1st Gen Tundra Flippac - Novice Build Advice

Finally made a slide for the bikes. I probably wouldn't do it the same way again, but this works pretty well. Before, we would have the back full of gear and bikes, which invariably led to unloading most of the truck to get at bike clothes, shoes, helmets, and bikes. Now we get to a trailhead...

    Considering a Sprinter 4x4

Have you considered the GM Vans? i was playing around on the site - $42k (probably discounts and/or cheap 0-3% financing available) gets you a 3500 EWB with lots of bells and whistles, including the 2.8L Duramax shared with Canyons and Colorados. Quigley factory 4x4 conversion for another $12k...

1st Gen Tundra Flippac - Novice Build Advice

Side note, planning other work, has anyone resealed the windows on a Flippac? It leaks in some rains since it moved to the new truck. Is the resealing process complete removal with new gaskets or typically just some RTV around the outside of the frame?
