Well now that winter is here I am finally getting around to tearing into the 40.
My plan right now:
Swap out rear axle for FJ60 rear end (to match front)
Re-Gear to 4:88 gears
Stretch wheelbase using FJ55 rear springs and relocated shackle hangers
Finish welding the new driver side floor pan...
The X-Jack is a really slick piece of gear. Lighter and safer than a Hi-Lift and easier to carry, it does it all.
The X-Jack looks alot more compact than a hi-lift, and safer too.
You should still carry both just in case your vehicle decides to stop running or breaks down and will not pump...
Start with the rear. If you are thinking ratchet type lockers, keep it in the rear axle. As for the front axle, save up a few more dollars and purchase a selectable locker for the front. I personally have blown a Lock Right during a snow run only 6 months after install due to 3 of the springs...
