DIY Overland Camper Build. Getting Started.

It's a flatbed trailer... the one I'm looking at is made of welded 2" steel tubing, not the cheap ones made of C-beams. If that trailer base doesn't end up working out then I'll weld up a custom frame using the same 2" square tubing.

DIY Overland Camper Build. Getting Started.

Looking to convert a flatbed into an overland camper. I'm going to be starting with an existing 10x7 flatbed frame (about the same footprint as a small Scamp) and lengthen it to a 13x7 (about the same footprint as a medium Scamp). Hoping to build light and end up under 2000lb, on a 3500lb axle...

Advice on Shock Absorbers for Overland LJ

At this point, it seems like the 5160’s are only available for a 4”+ lift, so they probably don’t even make them for my rig. I am glad to have a positive review of OME, so if all else fails I can just replace what I have. But my next question is, if I do go with the 5100s, on a 2.5 inch lift...

Advice on Shock Absorbers for Overland LJ

What size tires do you run in that setup? We currently have 31s on 15 inch wheels, but i’ll consider whether we can move up to 32s or 33s when this set of tires wears out, probably in 10k miles or so.

Advice on Shock Absorbers for Overland LJ

So the ride is improved, but do you feel the 5160’s handle the weight just as well?

Advice on Shock Absorbers for Overland LJ

We have been overlanding through the west in our 2005 LJ We carry a bit of gear and we also tow an overland trailer that is 800lb empty and 2000 lb fully loaded. We are usually right around our max GVWR for most trips, and occasionally a little over if we’re being honest. We’ve had the vehicle...

Adhesive Identification and Removal Advice - Help!

Took off a door panel on the Jeep and found an unholy mess that a previous owner has left us with. They apparently broke the adhesive after removing the moisture barrier, and decided to put it back on with the most disgusting tar pit residue they could find. See attached pictures. We have...

Plastic tote bins with vertical sides?

But can I find the Euro containers for sale in USA... No way am I having them shipped from Europe or UK. [Edit]: Closest thing I can find here in USA are listed as "solid straight wall containers" available from ULINE or Global Industrial.

Plastic tote bins with vertical sides?

Fantastic ideas so far. This place is great. Funny thing... I *have* some of those folding stacking bins. I have used them for static garage storage for things I only need to get to once in a blue moon, and they are great for that! The plastic is brittle however and they would not hold up one...

Plastic tote bins with vertical sides?

I'm looking for storage solutions for our adventure trailer. I want to go with a "tote" system, with stackable totes that each fill a certain role... one for canned goods, one for dishes, one for tools... you get the picture. But here's the catch: I want them to have vertical sides. You go to...

    Trailer Brake Requirements By State

Our LJ is rated to tow 3500lbs but we are going to tow a maximum of 2k.

    Trailer Brake Requirements By State

Quick question for you all... I'm having a trailer built for me at the moment. Dry weight should be around 700lb and fully loaded around 2000lb. This model does not come with trailer brakes. However, I saw a video claiming that some states require trailer brakes on trailers as low as 1000lb...

    Water Storage in the Desert

I am planning one doing some extended backcountry camping in dry desert areas. This isn't going to be an overlanding through-trip, it will be an extended camp at a single location for up to 2 weeks. While we are planning to bring water filtration in case we are able to refill from a spring or...

YJ/TJ for Desert Overlanding? Have you experienced heat soak problems?

Thanks for all the input and discussion. We just bought a 2005 LJ for a great deal. It's been well cared for, and not only does it already have heat shielding installed, but it has been out on several desert expeditions with no problems. We had to fly across the country to get it, but she purred...
