My wife and I are planning to buy an offroad trailer, so we rented a really nice Lifestyle Reconn R2 for a New Year's trip. I'm a frequent viewer of this subforum, so it's nice to post a link to the trip report for others considering offroad trailers or that specific model...
We wanted to see the Goat Canyon trestle bridge and started the 8-mile hike (4 miles each way). I misread the description and thought it was 2 miles, and it was a really challenging hike. Good news: we got lots of good exercise and did a lot of boulder hopping. Bad news: after 2 miles and GPS...
Nothing like a trip to the wilderness to reset, reflect on the year past, and contemplate the new year. This is why we love remote trips.

We rented a super capable offroad trailer for this trip, and it really raised the comfort...
Really enjoying this thread. My wife and I are coming at this from the opposite side of the age spectrum (considering offroad trailer to augment offroading/overlanding as retirement approaches), but have the same general question/concern. Arkto and EOS are both high on the list. Bummer about...
Always tradeoffs :-). Wife enjoys "overlanding" and remote camping, but as we approach retirement, additional creature comforts are desired to continue enjoying this hobby. We rented an Airstream Basecamp 16 for a weeklong trip a few months ago, and had a grand time. So I think those 13-ft...
Thanks for the replies. They are helpful. I should have defined "rugged" a bit better. When considering trailer-based adventures, I would still like to be able to do any trail in San Juan's for e.g., (with exception of Black Bear probably due to switchbacks). Or at Death Valley, any trail except...
I'm wondering about the family tree for seemingly related 13-ft Chinese-frame hybrid trailers. It seems like there is a family relationship between Black Series 13 hybrid, then OBI Dweller 13, then Mars 13 and Opus, not to mention AUS-RV. I like the size, and they all seem to share the same...
As a follow-on to the previous comment, as I consider #trailerlife, would it be possible for a good offroad fabricator to change the hubs to accept 18-in wheels (so I could use the same wheels on trailer and vehicle)? OBIs are compelling for value proposition, perhaps leaving some $ available...
Hi Rehammer, I'm in early research stages for an offroad trailer and EOS-12 pretty much checks all the boxes. One criterion is offroad capability. I'm pretty familiar with Kofa and wondering which trails you took your EOS-12 on.
I was on a trip once (combo pavement and gravel) and somebody had an Aliner. I remember it didn't have offroad-capable latches on the drawers, so that drawers/doors opened on the trail and stuff bounced out. Kind of a mess with cereal and food on the floor. So figured they aren't really...
Hi Dave, seems like you are in a similar position to my wife and I - although our criteria aren't exactly the same. Anyhow, I've been reading in this subforum a lot lately to get an idea of camper options and the market.
I've seen a couple used Taxa Mantis Overland in the upper-to-mid $20s, so...
Thanks @Roam.Wild. Wow, what incredible experiences!
Right now I'm just soaking info, and we're thinking we'll start living the lifestyle in 2026. But if circumstances aligned this Fall (right rig, right price, right time), we might move things forward.
