My cousins lost their place last year to hurricane Ida. Got them a travel trailer and some land in Colorado, and hauled it with their stuff inside all the way.
Transmission issue was the torque converter, changed it out and swapped all the solenoids, and had to fix the transfer case.
Happy to...
Got it all finished up. Nice difference with A: New shocks , and B: Bilstein 5100 series. After a couple of test drives on bumpy Houston streets and the freeway, it definitely rides much better now. The old shocks looked to be the original ones.
Digging into things now. Turned out the transmission issue is the EPC solenoid. No biggie. Still gonna rebuild it after a trip to Colorado in early June, all of the parts came in. Just a little crunched for time now.
This time it’s the passenger side ball joints and wheel bearing getting...
Almost have the HID projectors aimed in fully. Need to turn them in the housing one more time and readjust. Always tedious but worth the effort IMO.
Not too shabby for 35W ballasts.
She’s out back for the surgery for a bit now lol.
The 4l80e has a bad solenoid, so I’m about to tear it down and do the full rebuild. Disappointing, but it’ll be fresh after. Also ordered some Bilstein 5100 series shocks, passenger side wheel bearing and ball joints. Figured I may as well finish it up and get it freshened up too. Creature...
So, took a trip of a couple hundred miles a couple of times here in the state. Going the posted speed limit (usually 75mph) and I avg around 13ish.
I just returned from a trip to Colorado, and kept it at or below 70mph on the way up. 14.75mpg. Then returning home at or below 68 and it jumps to...
Did a tuneup yesterday with air filter change. The plugs are the previous acdelco generation iridiums that haven’t been available for some years now lol. The wires were less than robust. Anyway, runs much smoother and quieter - although I didn’t feel like it was particularly noisy before. Maybe...
I have now driven this thing a bit over 20k miles. Good power, especially for the size, and my real world fuel mileage at the pump has been between 14.2 and 14.5 mpg. Running factory sized tires on factory wheels. Just an FYI for anyone doing research.
Anybody else with a 6.0 4wd Suburban care...
Been quite a while, and tbh I haven’t done much at all to the beastie (gf’s nickname for it).
I noticed a good bit of vibration coming from the front end, and after a blowout on the driver side it really got shook up. Just OEM sized replacement tires all the way around, new ball joints, and new...
That body style looks way better IMO than the newer ones 2000-2006. GM uses 14 bolt axles (full float) on 2500 models. If it has one, it's either a factory 2500 or it's had a rear axle swap.
And then...fast forward about 1.5 years of life getting in the way a lot, and we are here...
At this point a lot still needs to be done. The intention is to make this thing totally driveable to most anywhere and very wheelable too, while later on building a nice overland style trailer for it...
