I'd start backwards with what size tires you're planning to use and adjust accordingly. Mine has an RC 3" installed by the previous owner (torsion bar keys and rear blocks). The front is cranked just a hair past stock. I have 35's with just a little bit of trimming. No complaints.

    2008 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab

That's 100% true. Anything brand name is probably light years ahead of worn out stock shocks.

    2008 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab

I wouldn't worry about the cost of the vehicle. I'm getting 5160's for my Z71, and it has 350k miles...

Previous owner did Rough Country torsion bar keys and lift block (I think their basic 3" kit), and some Rancho shocks. It has 330k miles, so I've been slowly fixing it up. Rebuilt 5.3, 4L60E and transfer case, rebuilt front end, and other odds and ends to keep it reliable. Custom bumper/winch...

    1500hd/2500hd build threads?

And Torsion Bars have been used for Baja as well. But you have to consider cost. Each torsion bar for mine is $250-ish, assuming they're in stock to begin with, shocks will be approx $200 (bilsteins) each. That's already close to $900, and I'm stuck with only one spring rate. Or, I can spend...

9.5 IFS and 14 bolt? Get the coil over conversion kit, slap on some 35s, and call it a day imho. I may be a little biased though.

Got some Cooper Evos in 35x12.50r17. Pretty awesome tires so far.

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

Had a 1992 Bronco, and it was a hoot to drive in a "spirited" manner. What you're talking about has been done quite a lot (a LOT) of times. Look up TTB chevy conversions like the one below. If the prerunner crowd is running these set ups with lots of power and big tires, they can't all be...

Not in my experience at all. At least not with the Eddie Bauer model since it does have softer torsion bars.

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

Makes perfect sense. If the Aussies can shorten Land Cruisers to create Utes with flatbeds, why is a 2 door Avalanche such a wild idea? I think that would rock to be honest.

It looks great so far. The Avalanche front end makes it look so. Much. More. Baja. Staying tuned for updates.

It would look much more factory if it was high and tight. At this point what's a little more effort?
