Chad had a great design and with his background in aerospace (he used to work at Boeing) he knew his materials and proper construction practices for a light weight roof tent. He is around 6'6" tall so he made tents he could fit in as well. Unfortunately between the covid panic and the flooding...

Cargo Boxes - Why you do. Why you don't

I went from a big Pelican case containing my six man ground tent on the roof rack to a Maggiolina roof tent which weighed about 130 lbs and stood almost 14" high. It was great but when a friend came along we still had to strap the Pelican case on top of the Maggiolina. So I went to a low profile...

    Let's talk about step vans...

We had a Chevy Step Van camper back in the early 1970's with a six cylinder inline engine - seriously under powered in the Rockies and definitely not much off road capability but it was still one of my favorite vehicles. My best friend and I set off on an epic voyage from Atlanta after he got...

    Camp Chairs

I've had some great chairs over the years (including a Kermit which lives in my Defender 90 permanently) but the Australian Drifta Stockton has claimed top spot after lots of other chairs. If you've ever hung around Aussies you know they are serious about their camping gear. Folded in their bag...

    Watches.......the other type!

This was in a batch of old stuff in my mother's house - may have been from my grandmother on my father's side but I have no idea for sure. Could be a fake that my mom picked up in her travels. My grandfather had a 1954 Rolex Turn-O-Graph that I inherited and will pass down to my nephew so his...

    Watches.......the other type!

Ramblin Chet has hit the nail on the head with the Doxa - a dream watch for me - a friend of mine has one his father gave him many years ago and I remember drooling over a display case with a Doxa dive watch back in the late 1960's. I have a couple of gold pocket watches dating to 1873-1884 and...

    Front Runner Expander Chair Review

Last year I was introduced to a new chair by a friend at a Land Rover event - it looked comfortable and so I asked to try it out. It was very nice but then Jeff (with an evil glint in his eye) said - "It reclines!" I ordered one as soon as I got home - The Drifta Stockton camping chair beats...

    Garmin Overlander options discontinue

Garmin has a long history of introducing new products and abandoning them a year or two later. I was suckered into buying a Monterra which they promptly discontinued less than a year later. The only Garmin product I use now is their GLO antenna which will connect via bluetooth to my Samsung tablet.
