1998 Mercedes Benz Actros 2040 4x4 Expedition Rig - Anyone else

Mercedes in the US might not be of help here. I doubt they can program the rig. The speed index of the tire is written on the tire itself, i.e. 395/85R20 J .The J would be speed index 100km/h. The truck itself would run 80mph all day once opened up.

1998 Mercedes Benz Actros 2040 4x4 Expedition Rig - Anyone else

Overland Expo West 2025 in Flagstaff, Az?

White Sands is nice. First time I've been there is about 35 yrs. ago. You were still allowed to enter late night and we've there with the motorbikes on a full moon night.

    Lean angle, Roll.

That was 25° when the sand let go with quite some strains in the drivers underwear. We ended up securing the vehicle with two winches, one at the back, one at the front at about 45° angle to keep it from sliding further down and after shoveling for an hour, we used the third winch to winch it...

It's all about the COG. Bigger trucks tend to have a lower COG than small trucks. The big red 15t Iveco in the picture is about 22°, which is quite safe for this one. The Sprinter is at about 18° and already starts lifting wheels here. A Unimog will do some more, but you have to watch your...

    Starlink or Garmin in reach

Just met a guy at our offroad drivers training yesterday and we were talking about emergency comms. He was skiing in the Italian alps 3 yrs. ago when an avalanche hit his group and took 3 of them with it. He used his InReach to call for help, got an immediate response and the first helicopter...
