The main frame is 1 X 3 X .125 tubing. It is reinforced with 1/4 inch wall where the shackles and tongue weld in. It is also gusseted in several areas.
I put a 3000 pound axle under it. The tongue is 2 inch square tubing 1/4 inch thick. Then I welded a 1/4 X 2 inch flat bar under it to stiffen it up. I doubt it was needed, but peace of mind. I took it on a long trail last weekend and it tows real nice!
I have had this tub kicking around my yard for about a decade. I figured it is time to put it to use. This will be the center portion of my trailer surrounded by large ammo cans. The rust is just surface and should clean up nice.
Maybe un-typical would have been a better descriptor. I am going to build a trailer that in some ways is similar to many of the military ones we see, yet also quite different. The two sketches are what I mean. In the center of the trailer is a smaller tub then you see on the typical military...
I got a crazy idea for a Jeep Trailer the other day. I thought somebody might like what I’m doing right, or wrong. I will post photos as it progresses. I started about a week ago in my spare time.
