    2024 Casita 17' Spirit Deluxe

I just had to replace the drain line for my van's sink—only 3 feet long. One local RV dealer wanted $50, while others insisted on redoing the entire setup just to sell me a specific hose. Luckily, I found a washing machine drain hose, trimmed it to size, and made it work perfectly. Total cost...

    Engine recommendations for cold climate

Not with mine - One reason could also be the additives that they add to our gas. I have never had an issue with any of the vehicles I owned UNLESS the battery was on its way out or I had let the tank get insanely low on fuel.

    Engine recommendations for cold climate

It is currently -30C or -22F here. I run gas vehicles no problem - 2020 Subaru Outback, 2017 Ford Transit. I do plug in the block heater when I am at home to help start a little easier but I also cold start with no problems at those temperatures. Main thing is a good battery and keep...

    Transit Opinions Appreciated

I own a 2017 Ford Transit with the EcoBoost engine, and I absolutely love driving it. My van is a 148-inch medium roof, two-wheel-drive model, and it’s been a fantastic vehicle for my needs. I’m impressed with its gas mileage. It varies depending on where and how I’m driving but usually ranges...

Super single tire conversion dilemma yes/no?

Love the Tim Hortons jab 😂 😂 My issue is always betting stuck someplace without tires or a doughnut 😂

Super single tire conversion dilemma yes/no?

You’ve touched on all the key points I consider. Keeping the dual rear - The added safety, the ease of finding standard tires, the lower cost of common tires compared to specialized ones, and avoiding the expenses for additional modifications all make a strong case. Plus every time you do a...

Is e-Bike Trailer Living Feasible for Full-Time Adventuring?

This topic has always fascinated me, and I’ve actually thought about doing something like this for years. Just not with dogs 😂 I’ve been cycling for over 54 years. When I was about 8 years old, I had someone build me a custom trailer for my bike. Later, when I had kids, I upgraded to a bike...

Carpet or No Carpet in Truck?

I bought a 2017 Ford Transit that came without carpeting up front, and I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it at first. Now, I absolutely love it! In my area, we deal with snow for over half the year, so floor mats are a must to catch the melting mess and protect the carpets in most vehicles...

Sleeping in vehicle in black bear country (what to do with food)

After over 40 years in bear country, I’ve never had an issue—whether with grizzlies or black bears. I’ve camped in campgrounds, deep in the backcountry, using tents, vehicles, and RVs. My golden rule for tents? No food allowed inside. When it comes to vehicles, I treat them like home—I cook...

    2024 Casita 17' Spirit Deluxe

I don't have a personal stake in this debate, but I can speak from my experience with my Northern Lite truck camper, which had a fiberglass body. This whole argument reminds me of something I often encounter at work. I own a photo lab where we offer both wooden and composite (plastic) frames...

    2024 Casita 17' Spirit Deluxe

Let me share my thoughts on the durability of a fiberglass camper. In the early 2000s, I purchased a 1992 Northern Light truck camper. The camper hadn’t seen much maintenance over the years. It wasn't abused, but it also wasn’t maintained. In fact, I was told that in the last few years before I...

    Earthroamer sell off?

I understand, my use / life changed when I got sick. But for those reasons I can see selling or resizing. I don't utilize my van nearly as often as I initially anticipated, but it still serves its purpose for camping when I do get out and various other tasks. Today, I'll be using it to attend...

    EarthCruiser is closing!?!?!

I had some work done on a tent trailer at a canvas shop. A good one will have the ability to do anything you could want done to it.

    STUPID IDEA

So before I start I'm going to admit this is a stupid idea. I'm also going to admit I know lots of reasons why we shouldn't do it. But my question is how come van people don't have all the bolt on toys for the side of the van that other overlanders have?? Side gear for pick-ups I know that...
