  • Im running ARB's in the front and back with 4.88 gears.... and that makes a HUGE COLLOSAL difference. Night and day. The biggest difference you can make to any 4x4. I have engaged my rear locker and kept it in 2 wheel drive and gone further than my similar rig with open differentials in four wheel drive. Ive done this same test with my jeep and it held true as well.
Thanks for the advice and doing your part for our country. I never served in the military, but I think if I had I would have retired there. I've seen my share of death and destruction and lost friends in the line of service. I've been lucky, but always say more lucky than good. Thanks again for the service and advice. I wish you well recovering.

We each have our place brother. Sometimes I regret leaving the Department, but I also realize it was my time there that prepared me for the service. You let me know if you ever need anything. Stay safe and keep updating your build, there is quite a large RAM following on here.
Btw....you have 10 more years to go... What agency do you work for. I retired as a Major with Greenville County Sheriff's Office, SC. I teach criminal justice at a university now and I love the summers off.

Actually Im in the Army. I spent almost 6 years at Clackamas County Sheriffs Office in Oregon before I joined the Army in 2007. More Patriotism than common sense I guess. 10 out of those 11 years in SOF. I should be retired by the end of the year though, I had a mechanical failure on an airborne Opp. and broke my neck, jacked up my back, been medevaced 3 times and now they say I have central apnea. Fun Fun Fun

I am looking forward to teaching as well. I started working with a SOF organization that trains people like Doctors without borders to go into high threat environments like Sudan and parts of the Middle East. I also have relationships within the off-road industry that allow me to travel and go to off-road events all over the US. So I am very fortunate for sure.

If you have any questions about products or build items let me know and I'll do what I can to get you the correct answer. People always have opinions and bias, I certainly have mine as well, but I prefer to just get facts and let people make up their own minds about what is best for them and their intended vehicle use.
Thanks for that info. Yet another thing to put on the list! I actually wanted to get an onboard compressor but more for the easy access for tire inflation and other small uses.

2nd question if you don't mind. How are you with the stock alternators? Have you found a need to upgrade? I was thinking it might be something to consider with winches and extra lights.

My truck came with the stock 180 amp single alt. I ordered all the stock parts to add the factory second alternator at 220 amp. So far with the single I have been OK ( but I have not had a hard pull winching at night with all the lights going either) but I prefer to have the second for added output and redundancy. You can add it and then go to the dealership to have the computer set for it so it will work.
Ive been reading over your Ram Build and I'm quite impressed. The first time I saw an AEV Prospector was in 2016 at Overland East. I think its what convinced me to go Diesel with this build in mind. While I've had to scale back my original project I did notice a couple of items on your build that I wanted to ask about.

The first is the ARB air lockers. Do the ARB lockers really make that much difference?

They do, although I only run an ARB in the front. I prefer the gear driven limited slip rear NO SPIN. The front ARB makes a HUGE diff. I was going to run a rear ARB as well, however, after talking to Cooper at diesel power products and several people from within the industry I settled on the reliability of the factory NO SPIN in the rear and an ARB in the front.

The No SPIN works great in everything but snow and ice (it will just spin 1 tire) and when you lift a front tire and load a single rear tire it will only spin 1 tire. However, with the front ARB engaged I have yet to find a place were I can't go. In dry dirt, shale, and aggregate at low speed the rear locks up very well. I wouldn't wast the money on a rear ARB, the NO SPIn drives great on and off road.
