    @tglaser still rolling the 40?

Looking for an LR4 in the Santa Cruz/South Bay to check out??

You could have your local Carmax bring one in to test drive. Nevermind. There’s only one right now.

    Disco 1 vs Disco 3 (LR3)

Every rig has a don’t get that part wet. The distributor on the FZJ80 is a big one. I did appreciate the seller’s honesty and frankness. I’ll have to inquire further once they get it back.

    Disco 1 vs Disco 3 (LR3)

Called on a local LR3 for sale. The sales lot washed and detailed the engine and now it won’t start. LOL.

Onboard Spare parts when off-roading/overlanding with an LR4 / Discovery 4

I don’t own a modern Disco, but I stayed at a Holiday in last night. I’d agree with this. Since no one had mentioned it, these vehicles would seem to benefit greatly from a dual battery setup and a compact jump starter, like a NOCO.

    Disco 1 vs Disco 3 (LR3)

This is a great thread. I’d like to add that an RRC isn’t out of the question either, but their recent values equate to them being very expensive or very beat. It does seem parts availability (especially interior) is better on Disco 1’s vs RRC. It appears the only drawbacks to an LR3 is...

    Disco 1 vs Disco 3 (LR3)

@bri Graceful? Absolutely not. It’s all about the herky-jerky going uphill. I do love me some manual on technical downhills. Hopefully you don’t have to stop often. My DD is a V8 manual. The idea of a manual Disco is because it’s rare, cool, and nostalgic. Plus I can rebuild manual...

    Disco 1 vs Disco 3 (LR3)

It wouldn’t happen to be gray/black and in Texas would it? The D1 5-speed sounds like a fun.

    Disco 1 vs Disco 3 (LR3)

@Highlander It seems the hardest parts to find for Disco 1s are the door cards. Luckily, they only came in one color. I believe most other soft goods are available as OEM or quality repops. @Carson G there seems to be a fair number of V6 units available. It seems most are lower mileage as...

    Disco 1 vs Disco 3 (LR3)

@Carson G Thanks, that’s good to know. Information on that engine is pretty sparse. It’s a common Ford derivative, but one thing I have learned in all my wrenching is the biggest engine in any platform will have the greatest knowledge base. @XJLI I can’t argue with that, but I don’t like the...

    Disco 1 vs Disco 3 (LR3)

That’s the situation I am in now with my 80. Those and the D1 are basically gold bars you can drive. Comes at a price though. One careless moron that is texting while driving can take it all away. I think the LR3 will get there too. Right now it’s a bit of a sleeper like the V8 4Runner. Both...

    Disco 1 vs Disco 3 (LR3)

Nice pics ultimately, I’d like to own both. I currently own one of the greatest expo trail rigs of all time in the 80, but I’ve always loved Disco platform and am always looking for ways to sharpen my mechanical skills. I like working on cars almost as much as driving them. TV repairman +...

    Disco 1 vs Disco 3 (LR3)

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/d/walnut-creek-2006-landrover-lr3/7273178719.html @Shigeta here is a prime example. I’m fairly certain this a result of cracking a pan or neglecting oil changes, possibly cracking a block from a bad rod. It is definitely the exception rather than the rule...

    Disco 1 vs Disco 3 (LR3)

Unfortunately, we didn’t get the TD here. Goes double for California where you can’t convert them. A D2 isn’t out of the question, but I’d prefer the D1 due to it being so simple. I forgot to mention, @gabrielef thanks for the invite. I haven’t been up there since the Creek Fire. I can use me...
