Well, it was almost a year ago so I don't quite remember all the details. :)
I will say the one road down from from Pine Lake (Hualapai Peak) I found a little odd since its the towns fire evacuation route and would be slow going for car which I didn't think was ideal in the case of a fire.
Old foundation and part of the tailing pile.
The old mine shaft
Parting shot for the day.
Another great day and trip in the books.
Some of these areas I've know about for sometime but never had the time/opportunity to visit.
Once back at the trailhead parking lot it was time for lunch and to give my feet a needed rest before heading down to Gold King Mansion.
Mine site along the way.
Once I reached the trailhead I opted to hike the 2 miles back in lieu of driving as I didn't think it wise for me to tackle this...
Back on the trial heading to old scout camp - sad to see it in this state. If I remember right the camp lost funding a number of years ago and closed.
The old out building / shower area
The old camp store
I didn't take the trial to this short summit as I had other plans.
At the end of month I found myself back in the area this time to hike to the summit Hualapai Peak and to explore Gold King Mansion - a little dusty this day.
Burn scar starting up the trail
The peak in the background
Monument / family remembrance site
There was no direct trail...
More of my Arizona wanderings in March of 2025 - I'm behind in trip reports.
March 15 was a day trip to Tonto National Monument to the lower cliff dwellings with my folks and brother.
The upper cliff dwellings are a guided tour (reservations) and a little more strenuous to get to.
View of...
Rest stop
The main memorial
As I started back up the trail, I ran into a hiker who was close friends with a number of these and wound up talking for about 30 minutes about the area and the incident. Unfortunately, I had to cut the conversation short and continue...
I'm a little behind on some trips.
Last March I spent a Saturday morning hiking the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial just outside of Yarnell, Arizona. I didn't know about this area till I took an alternate way back to Surprise from a mountain biking trip to Prescott and it caught my eye. So I...
The last stop for the day was the site of old Fort Cummings and the cemetery, which isn't a whole lot left.
On the trail.
There's 3 walls down in the brush that you can still see from the cemetery.
The trail to this plaque was somewhat hidden in the weeds and I only...
Filled with old corn cobs.
Before heading out I stopped by the small visitor center to check out the displays and some more information on the area before heading further south to my last destination for the trip.
There's a few campgrounds in the area and a number of hiking...
The following day I headed out early to check out the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument - the trail to the dwellings don't open till 9 am but it takes a minute to drive back to it.
The trail to the dwellings is a fairly easy mile loop but there are a number of stairs you have to up. Again...
Next stop for the day was the site of old Fort Craig before heading over to Silver City, New Mexico.
There's not a whole lot left of the Fort minus a few walls and foundations. Plaques are around the majority of the site.
The old church
If you look at the upper left of the church the wall is starting to crumble - I wonder how long it will last before it fails and takes the corner of the building with it.
Couldn't find a direct way back to structure without doing some hiking though the brush.
The...
