1998.5 Dodge Ram CTD - Sally

That is super clever man! Thanks for the info there. I'm interested in seeing how some modeling goes once I go down this route.

1998.5 Dodge Ram CTD - Sally

Looks great man! It def looks like it came from the factory with a special package, which is really the best for interior mods I feel. How did you do the texture on the switch mount and stick ring? Was that just from the plate while you 3D printed?

    Pour Man’s Dually

Yes, however most OEM wheels are already sitting pretty far inboard, so generally speaking literally any aftermarket wheel is going to add negative offset, and the wider the wheel the more negative the offset. This is not to say the wheels are guaranteed negative offset, just that they will be...

    Pour Man’s Dually

Wider diameter tire on the same size wheel is going to flex more. 11.5 to 13.5 isn't a absolutely huge jump, but it's not going to help with stability, if anything it's going to hurt it. You could install wider tires with wider wheels. That will help but obviously the more extreme you go the...

    Balancing Payload capacity vs. Offroad

I have no idea where people are finding these mythical crew cab 4x4 f150s with >2k payload, but I'll tell you they don't exist in new england, and there is literally nothing above 2500lbs, per ford itself. Look at the max available payload across these trucks per fords specs. Most of these...

    Balancing Payload capacity vs. Offroad

Super good info. A few degrees would be quite a dramatic change in turning radius, so anything that improves would be a welcome addition, especially considering I'm planning RCVs anyway, so a little bit of extra work to get some benefit is great!

    Balancing Payload capacity vs. Offroad

That's good to know! I know RCVs have been around a long time, I just didn't realize you could trim your stops in addition to getting additional movement while in 4x4. I'll def be looking into this more. Thanks for saying something, never would have guessed!

    Balancing Payload capacity vs. Offroad

I had already planned to swap RCVs in my build long term, but I had not read about shaving the stops. Where did you hear that? Curious to read up on it as any increase in turning radius is a huge pro. The Dodge HD trucks are already best in the turning radius department (even beating out current...

2018 Ram 3500 G56 Expedition Family Adventure Vehicle

I think basically every single "instagram worthy" midsize is at least 150% of axle capacity. I went with a 2500 for similar reasons, except wanting to create something that leaned a bit more crawler over hauler. I do often wonder if I should have gone with a 3500, lightened the leafs, and added...

2018 Ram 3500 G56 Expedition Family Adventure Vehicle

I figured your truck was pretty heavy, but didn't realize it was at axel capacity heavy. That's pretty crazy. I don't know if I missed it but did you ever do a before and after measurement with the new bed? I'm imagining it added some weight but curious if you know roughly how much.

2021 RAM 3500 Tradesman | AEV Prospector | FWC Grandby

AEV makes a fantastic looking product, but I'm starting to wonder about design decisions they are making. I installed the snorkel on my 2019 and I can't believe the design of the thing. From where it comes out of the fender, it looks great, but there are numerous serious design issues I've got...

2019 Powerwagon build thread - Bones (warning lots of pics)

I don't know if kosher to link to another forum, but since it's very specific and not a competing one I'll share. https://hdrams.com/forum/index.php?threads/can-you-upgrade-to-uconnect-5.4652/page-3 Jimmy has a lot of insight into these things. If you can't find the info you need in that...

    Mid-size vs Full-size truck setup

There isn't a maximum distance as much as a maximum speed. Generally speaking, 4H is a "mid speed" drive. You can bomb short highway runs for like 60mph, but you're testing your luck. I think the generally accepted case is something along the lines of "surface street speed, but below 45mph" and...

    Differences Ram 2/3500 and 4/5500

I think that for most people the 9.25 AAM is a strong enough front axle to never render an issue. The only issues I see on the 9.25 is for guys that are really going hard off road. Either playing hard in the rocks, or high speed desert off-road runs. For those guys, Thuren, Carli, and maybe...

    Differences Ram 2/3500 and 4/5500

I don't know if you mentioned it and I never read it, but what is your specific use case for this truck? I think the general consensus is that the Dana is a better axle than the AAM, but I don't think it's a crazy difference. I have no doubt that a 45/5500 from either brand will be stronger...
