Has anyone had any issues with the mini failing to work due to mishandling?
They seem pretty robust, with people mounting them on vehicles, etc.
Is a rigid case even necessary?
I use a simple silicone cover for it (many on Amazon)... and then it goes into a backpack with all the accessories and cords.
The silicone cover is handy for keeping dust and debris off it while I'm stationary for a while (camping, etc.)
I have a plug for my dc outlet and also a couple battery...
M + S only refers to the space between the lugs being suitable for clearing mud and snow out of them.
Snow tire - my vote will always be the Nokian Hakkapeliitta's.
I do run Goodyear Duratracs on my 4x4 year round... (Nokians are on the other truck). The Duratracs have been good for winter...
Agreed.
The only other debate would be studless or studded.
We went with studded.
These are hands-down the best snow tires I've ever had the pleasure of running.
(The studs are even directional! lol)
The ones we have are:
285/75/16 E-rated.
Sounds like a reasonable psi for the trailer... due to the weight. I always play it by ear and see how much the tires are squatting (how much weight is on them).
The 37's can likely handle going a bit lower if needed... I'm usually around 18 on the FJ, but it's not carrying a camper on it, but...
I've left coolers out (just too damn heavy when it's full of meat)... but it was in an area that was very remote and the bears were not "garbage bears".
I used ratchet straps and strapped them shut at least... one was a yeti cooler so it seals good on it's own, but the other was a basic cheap...
I wouldn't use a single bolt hole regardless.... install a roof rack and then use it... spread out the tension.
Prinsu is a decent aftermarket option.
I had to drill into the roof (1st gen)... but it was pretty easy... even with some modifications for the sunroof (had to cut/trim the legs a bit).
In the city I drop my psi on the duratracs to 25... makes a huge difference. If I were to hit the hwy for any period of time I would crank it back up to hwy pressures.
