Trailer recommendations

I’ve considered this route, my fear is that the size of the trailer will negatively affect fuel economy more than I want. I know from a weight standpoint it’ll probably be about the same but from a drag standpoint… I don’t know.
If you are worried about fuel economy then sleeping in a tent is the way to go.

There’s a few of these used nearby that are 7-9k but mostly outfitted. What would be a fair price to offer for some of these?

$7k to $9k outfitted with a RTT and anything else (especially battery, water tank, etc) would be a fair price in my book. I'm not following the used market on these, but that seems fair to me. Just make sure it is either one of the later models, or it has had the frame reinforcement retro-fit done. Early units had a problem where the frame would crack at a certain spot and Smittybilt released some metal parts that needed to be welded on to reinforce the frame.

Do you know offhand what year they started doing the reinforced frame? I did look through the megathread some but people were really iffy on the year it actually started… of the ones I read anyway

TBH, I'm not sure there was ever even an official acknowledgment of the issue; in my original post I was mixing up a VIN snafu they had on the very first couple hundred units where they had to issue a recall and offer to add an official VIN plate and number. The only way to tell whether the frame has been reinforced is to visually inspect it - it should be very obvious. There will be either additional gussets or new heavier welds, or doubler plates (angle iron or bar stock) where the tongue meets the header. If you buy one that has not had the reinforcement, inspect the joint carefully and plan to do the reinforcement yourself. There is a guy selling a "kit" on eBay, but I don't know if it is legit or not. https://www.ebay.com/itm/285353896642.
