Our rig was at the trailhead two days away when we had this cozy camp along the Whirlpool River in Jasper National Park a week ago. Late season meant absolutely no one else was out so we enjoyed the solitude and unusually pleasant weather.
The view out our front window...
Our trip came to a premature end when we encountered this creek crossing. I knew the bridge had washed out several years ago but others had successfully crossed in late season when water levels usually drop. Unfortunately our spell of warm weather meant flows from the upstream glacier were higher than normal and silty waters obscured the boulder-covered bottom. I went in to test the footing and quickly retreated.
Time for another fire!
