I've been looking to relocate to Oregon and keep coming back to Bend. Housing looks inexpensive, weather seems a little more moderate than where I live now and it looks like a good base for traveling.
A lot of the housing I'm seeing available online looks very inexpensive. I also notice a good number of timeshares available. The usual reason for inexpensive housing is a lack of well paying jobs. Is there anything I'm missing here about Bend? Is it a terrible place to be part of the year? Crazy local govt., taxes, etc.?
What's the downside of Bend?

Any insight you can give me would be appreciated.
