Interesting points, I would be looking at 03 and 04 which I hear do not melt down at easily at the newer ones. I would also delete all the possible emissions equipment.

I would go with the Ford if you are looking at gas. If you want a reliable diesel, save yourself the headache and avoid Ford all together and get the Cummins.

Have you had your livin lite camper out in really hot or cold temperatures? And if so, how has it handled it? I am concerned the aluminum camper will add extra heat when it's really hot out.

I don't think I would be too concerned about the long term longevity of the Cummins. Rethies "holy grail" 12 valve cummins would be a great platform, the only drawback is that the older Cummins is louder than the newer commonrail, but it's a diesel.

I am no PSD expert, but is it possible the fuel pump is failing or they are not getting adequate fuel pressure to the injectors?
