It doesnt need it at all for support. That rack is intended for long term stowage for light items.
I'm thinking weathertight boxes for seasonal clothing/gear. And all in, as memory serves the entire cab-over rack section weighs less than 65#
Its primarily 12ga sheet, fabbed into custom...
Fair question.
The bed itself served multiple purposes, camper or no camper, and weighs just a few hundred lbs over the stock bed.
It isnt heavy by any means. And we ditched the rear bumper in doing so. The difference is less than 200#
The function of the custom bed itself is something that...
Thanks for the post.
We dont carry much. Both are avid backpackers, and travel as such.
So the amount of items to remove to lessen weight is awfully short.
As such, I've been able to manage weights carefully.
As it sits currently, wet, loaded and ready for full time travel we have roughly...
We've used all 4 a few times to get out of snow drifted areas. Pretty much a 4x4 w/ locker to get in, that and chains to get out.
No experience with cables. Not certain they would hold up to a heavy truck as ours. Thanks for the suggestion though. Ill dig a bit deeper into cables.
Current decking is 1/4" thick. Ive seen 1/4" / 6mm honeycomb.
Simply no first hand experience with it.
Though I feel an FRP or fiberglass skinned honeycomb core would be sufficiently stiff/sturdy and provide a significant weight savings.
The 1/4" tread plate is near 4# per square foot.
Hello all.
In preparation of eventually hitting the road full-time with our setup, Im looking to lighten the load where I can.
While everything we have currently works excellent, there is some room for weight savings.
The (easy) offenders Im currently looking at are the following... which...
Its goin'
Running gear and chassis are back together.
Just brought the body back into the shop for its final workover.
We have a 3-week trip coming up... so work will be delayed.
But I should have it back together and on the road in the next few months
BTW, build thread over...
Just realized you are having trouble with private land layer showing…. I have had that problem once on my Iphone. Full IOS and Gaia app update fixed it. Though I have found some areas/regions simply do not have private land info available. The layer is only as good as the data supplied.
The private land layer is one of our standards for many reasons. Knowing you are NOT on private property is a good thing. 👍 We typically have private land, public land, satellite, historic topo, and USGS topo layers on.
We have a small Viair along with a small tank mounted along the chassis of our superduty.
Its tucked up high enough and sitting on a tray, it doesnt get hit by much, I also added a remote intake for it that breaths via a storage compartment.
Been there for years now, besides replacing a...
Absolute nonsense in the lower 48.
We routinely use LP gas for both heating and cooking at 9000+ elevation and down well below zero degree F without issue. And we run for months on a single 30# cylinder. And difficult to source?? Again, not the case in the US. Essentially every uhaul...
